Here is a log output from around a time when the gui locked up.

Don't know if this is normal but there are several errors mentioned:

Single PC.

Have you disabled all of the MCE 2005 services on that PC? Have you stopped the ehtray.exe from running?

I disabled MCE Receiver and Scheduler(?) Services.

I don't know what ehtray is.

It is a process that runs at startup. Bring up Task Manager and you should see it running. It handles the MCE Remote messages and the "Green Button" on the remote.

This is probably not the issue you are encountering, but I will post it here in case it helps anyone.

I have noticed that the SageTV interface slows down considerably when viewing OTA channels where the signal strength is poor (e.g., channels with intermittent problems). Navigating the menus can be painful until you change the channel to one with reasonable signal strength. Once the change to the stronger channel is made, the UI response is significantly improved.
