SageTV 1080i (film content 29.97) mpeg2 playback
When using any mpeg2 decoder with Hardware Motion Compensation enabled in sageTV to playback 1080i Cable TV recordings (film content @29.97fps), some recordings have jumpy video and interlace combing on very fast scene changes. It's only happening on some TV shows and movies usually on the same TV channel.
When I disable HMC in the decoder, the video skipping and deinterlace combing effects all immediately go away; however, the video quality is soft and less detailed as when it's on. Some people say this is because of incorrectly flagged TV shows. Is there a setting to have the PowerDVD decoder to use bitstream analysis instead of depending on flags IN SAGETV? I only know how to change this setting for the Cyberlink PowerDVD player itself, not the directshow decoder that's used in other software. Maybe I have a different problem than flags? I'm not sure where on the Internet would be the best resource to get help on this. I already emailed sageTV support, I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some information that might help in the meantime. PS: I dont see this problem on my HD200 or placeshifter. Thanks!

Try NTRegmon to see what PowerDVD is setting and then set the same thing in the SageTV key for the decoder in the registry.

I already know the location, entry name, and valid respective values. I have tried it already before posting. The problem is the dshow decoder ignores it when I put that entry in the only place I can think of that the decoder would read (same place UIUseHVA can be effectively manipulated).
Location for PDVD player: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDVD8 UI_HwDeInterSetting= {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000},{335AA36E-7884-43A4-9C91-7F87FAF3E37E},{5A54A0C9-C7EC-4BD9-8EDE-F3C75DC4393B},{6CB69578-7617-4637-91E5-1C02DB810285},{B338D50D-A64A-4790-AC01-475B64252A78}, or {F9F19DA5-3B09-4B2F-9D89-C64753E3EAAB} Location for dshow video decoder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLVSD Ideally, it would be great if someone has gotten this to work... Any other suggestions welcome..

But that's not where it looks, it looks in something like HKCU\Software\Cyberlink\Common\SageTV... or something. The decoder makes new reg keys for each app that uses it. I'm not sure the exact path, it's been a while since I looked, but I know PowerDVD decoders make an app-specific key. It should be there already if the decoders been used by Sage.

Yes, I suspected that might be it and tried that as well before posting.. This is where its at:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLVSD\SageTV] ....and default entries: PVParam1=dword:00000000 PVParam2=dword:00000000 PVParam3=dword:00000000 PVParam4=dword:00000000 PVParam5=dword:00000000 I just deleted PVParam1=dword:00000000 and put UI_HwDeInterSetting={deinterlace algorithm of my choice} in its place. It didnt make any difference. Maybe I didnt do it right? Have you actually been able to effectively change decoder behavior with UI_ entries in a dshow app registry key? Quote:

Okay, I just used graphedit and change the prop page deinterlace options to force weave and bob. I was able to figure out the settings for bob and weave for the dshow video filter (not the same as the standalone player); not sure if there are any other ones available to try; at least not from the prop page. Thanks, I'll give this a shot when I get home...
Under: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLVSD\GraphEdt] bob= "UIVMode"=dword:00010002 weave= "UIVMode"=dword:00010004 I'll copy it to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLVSD\SageTV]
