HD100: jumpy crawl
Our local CBS affiliate has recently taken to putting up "Analog TV ending, oh no!" crawls over large parts of their prime-time 1080i shows. When running my HD100 in "passthrough" mode so that it is sending 1080i to my TV (Sony KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD panel), the crawls are very jumpy. They'll be smooth for a second or two, then jump around, then be smooth again. If I force the mode to 1080p, then the crawls are smooth. However, they're also smooth if I bypass SageTV, and use the TV's internal tuner to watch TV live.
When I first got the hd100 and Sony TV over a year ago, I did a lot of comparisons of various types of signals, and at the time I thought that "passthrough" to 1080i/720p/480i looked best on most material (especially full screen panning). Maybe I was on drugs and made the wrong choice? I guess my question is: What's really happening when I display a 1080i recording at 1080i on my TV? Is the HD100 de-interlacing the 1080i stream, and then re-interlacing it? Or is it really just passing it through? If the latter, then why doesn't my TV have problems with these crawls when using its on-board tuner? Thanks, Drew |

What is your sagetv version and the firmware version on the HD100?
I believe was an issue which has been fixed with the latest beta, don't know for sure.
