Last Night's Final on ITV HD - HD100/200 Video Problems?

I am on the latest beta for both the server and the extenders.
Last night's game was one of the few times I watched ITV HD. I did not have any issues in the past.

The video paused every few seconds until eventually after a minute or so it would freeze completely. This on both the HD100 and HD200. On the server (Windows XP) the video plays fine so it seems it's not the stream.

It almost looks like some problem with bufferring or video stream timecode info or network performance.

I can rull out the network because other high bitrate videos play fine.

Can any of you share your experience if you watched the game?
Don't want to go into the detail of game....

I am filing a bug report and sending some 2-3 minute clips which exhibit the issue.

Irrespective of the problems faced by ITV on their broadcast,

it seems that the problem is HD100/HD200 firmware related since the recording when played locally on the HD200 via the USB port still exhibits the same issues.

I am interested in hearing on how others are doing with ITV HD.

I'd be happy to get any picture or sound!

It shouldn't be to difficult since you are in the prime footprint area.

There are a couple of threads in this forum on how to receive ITV HD in SageTV.

My issue seems to be a bug introduced with 6.5.16.

I've never been able to get ITV-HD properly.

I get the picture but it pauses every few seconds like you said on your first post, and its been like that for as long as I can remember, not just this latest beta.

Exactly the same issue as mine, its never worked as far as I can remember. I've sent various files and bug reports to Sage but nothing really came of it.
I did see a thread elsewhere on the forums saying they had a new version of something that would be released in a later beta but again I think that's fallen by the wayside or I missed it.
Can't really complain as theirs never anything to watch on ITV HD anyway and as long as the system works generally I'm a happy bunny.

That's interesting. I never really noticed it. Thanks for the feedback.

Same as doc and jaminben - ITV HD has always jumped every few seconds.

With that and the problem of BBC HD often broadcasting non-standard audio, my experience of HD via Sage has not been brilliant, and the WAF is getting to the point where I am finding it hard to argue against defecting to a more mainstream provider.

Hi,

I've reported this problem to Sage recently, and sent them a sample video file. The response I got was that it would be fixed in beta code to be released soon. I'm trying to find out if the new code made it into the last beta release.

Does anyone know if using the DVBViewer Recorder app fixes this issue ?.

Cheers

Gary

Yep HD over the air hasn't been great but HD playback of mkvs etc is great so that makes it up for me.

Hopefully the new code (whenever its released) will sort it all out.

Think yourselves lucky. Using the Mac client BBC HD has no video (audio is fine but no picture is a bit of a drawback for an HD channel). I reported this with sample videos 6 months ago but it still has not been fixed. Maybe I should report it again? Sage has a constant beta program & it all seems a bit hit & miss as to if/when bugs get fixed.

Actually the BBC HD problem manifests as a black screen - neither video nor audio.

Though I've seen posts which suggest Sage are trying to fix this, it isn't really their problem - the BBC are broadcasting certain programmes with audio streams which don't adhere to international standards. They've acknowledged it's their fault and they have said they intend to fix it, but it seems to be taking them a very long time.

Meanwhile I see somebody has developed a utility to repair the audio after a dodgy programme has been recorded - google for "BBC HD fixer" for information about the problem and the workaround.

Must be a similar problem with ITV HD.

I am currently sending various test files to the SageTV team.

Yes ITV HD is now working for me on my PC clients and my HD100s

Playback of ITV HD on my MVPs is unwatchably stuttery; BBC HD works perfectly.

Great Job SageTV and Qian!!
I have the ITV HD pause problem (BBC HD is fine) when using either Windows client or HD100 to view. I am using latest version 6.6.2 of both client and server. Is there a download patch that fixes this, together with instructions on how to implement it?
