What I've learned so far about installing SageTV on a fresh XP (I'm a Sage Noob)

RTFM. Yes it's long and nobody likes reading manuals, anyway here are the steps I've followed just to install SageTV.

Windows XP fresh install on a ASUS M3A78-T.
1. Install Network driver
2. Install latest JAVA (This is for Sage yes it's in the manual but...)
3. Install XP updates including .NET stuff
4. Install ATI CCC driver software (Stupid installer needs .NET)
5. Install Audio & Capture drivers
6. Get & install MSPowertoys for XP (autologin)
7. Set XP for preformance (why not)
8. Install SageTV
9. AC3CONFIG for SP/DIF bitstream (Dolby Digital on optical)

Not really, per this post in the acronym sticky at the top of this (General) forum.

These are not (in my opinion) things that a newbie should be installing as part of their initial setup. They may be desirable add-ons (although I get by just fine without them), but raw noobs should not be messing with them until after they have the base product working reliably.

I also take issue with the OP's implication that you have to do all nine steps "just to install SageTV". Over half of those steps are things you'd do on any new Windows setup with that collection of hardware. And installing Java doesn't really need to be done as a separate step, since the SageTV installer will install it automatically if necessary.

Well I have been looking at Comskip.

I'm currently struggling with
setting up Dual Tuners with different antennas & the tripled digit remapping ie: 44-44-1 on an ATSC tuner.

Now I've got a solution to EVR in XP

Thanks to Hauppauge's WinTV v7 it's easy and it works!
Make sure you have the latest .NET 3.5 and it's updates then install the WinTV v7 software.
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/suppor...rt_wintv7.html
EVR will now show up as a SageTV setting in the Video/Audio setting.
