Purple People in Windows Media Player

Recently, my Win XP desktop has purple people when I use Windows Media Player with mpg files. Same file, same PC, with Nero, and with Sage Client, is OK. Same file with windows media player, different PC, is OK.

So the codecs (?) on the XP PC are screwed up?

I had WMP 11. When I did an uninstall with XP, it elected to roll back to WMP 9. That too shows purple. WMP then was NOT in the uninstall program list. (?). I then got it to update to WMP 11. Still purple. Grrr.

Any clues?

What decoder are you using? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling that? I would think that would be the issue more than WMP.

dumb user answer: I don't know. Whatever the Microsoft default is. If it was changed, I didn't ask for it. How do I check?

Search for a program called graphedit. If you open up a video file in that, it should tell you what video filters WMP will use to play it back. If you can't tell based on the program's output, post a screen shot and I should be able to tell you.

Thanks. Odd...
Downloaded graphedit.
Chose Render media file. Selected an mpeg file produced by Sage.
graph shows
filename feeding into SageTV MPEG Splitter...
video to SageTV Video Decoder -> VMR Video Renderer
audio chain (I'll ignore that)
When I ask GraphEdit to view video - opens window. No Purple People.
I then opened the same file using MS Media Player. No Purple People.
I closed GraphEdit, exited it.
Now Media Player shows Purple People, same file.

?
Wonder why GraphEdit shows SageTV stuff at all.
This XP PC has the Sage Client installed but not in use. (Sage Server is on a different PC.)
