Question Best Codec for Vista?

I'm running an "intermeadiate system" based on my old hardware until I see what digital cable requirements are in my area. (within the week)

I use to be able to record three shows at once with my rig, now after installing Vista, with all updates, my CPU load is around 70%

I recall it being only 20% or so per channel recording.

I upgraded from 1G mem to 2G just for vista.

What I dont recall was the codec I used. Cinemaster or something. Does it make a difference? the SageTV codecs and windows ones seem to be causing the high CPU usage.

Any ideas?
