Standalone mode help needed
I just received my HD200. I hooked it up and I am able to play online video's such as youtube and get weather so i know the network is working.
I have 4 computers on my network. They all have shared folders and from any computer I can see the other computrs folders that are shared. I have video files and music on these computers that I would like to play on the HD200. What configuration needs to get done on the HD200 so It can see the computers on my network and play the files in the shared folders. The HD200 is set for DHCP. When I try to browse the network, It shows no files or folders. I updated the firmware via the settings menu and it has 20081230 on it thank You Last edited by fdnyfish; 06-15-2009 at 01:04 PM. You need to update your firmware to the beta release.
When you are at the System Update screen, but before you select Check for Updates, type 2382 on your remote (stands for beta) and then at the top you'll see Update Beta Firmware. Now select Check for Updates and you'll see the beta.

I found this to be one of the hardest things to setting things up for the first time.
If you have a password-protected network share, make sure the account name and password is all in the same case, and assign it in the setup of the SageTV. Then, you may need to manually browse for import folders. If you can't even browse to the locations, you probably don't have access (network, or password). If you can browse to it, but it doesn't import, it may just be the firmware. I have gotten into the habit of checking firmware every couple of weeks, and haven't had problems since (other than a title or two here and there). |

Great, I'll give that a try when I get back home in a few days. I did however install the 20 day trial of the mediaserver, and all my movies are now streaming to the HD200 and play well.
I'll keep you advised Thanks |

Updated the firmware....
When I go to File Browser > Browse the local network, I get a Authentication failure. It prompts me for a username and password. Once i enter the username and password the file browser window opens and the word EMPTY is displayed. Is there a way to store the username and password for my network in the HD-200? What coud be wrong that I do not see any files? I see the files fine from other computers on the network. |

Watch the caps on the pwd / id.
Once I had the password in there, everything opened up fine on our setup. If you can see the files from the other systems, my guess would be that you aren't really connected from the HD200. |

Check the caps on those passwords. It is case sensitive. Check the server, too... It took us a little while to get that just right, because I had to change the account on the server, as well as the account/password on the extender.

I have the latest firmware update. The only way I could connect to a windows share is if that box is in the 'WORKGROUP' workgroup. Once it is in there you can then connect and view the files. I tried with different workgroup names and none of them would work. But if you have one computer in the 'WORKGROUP' workgroup then you can see all your workgroups. But you still can't access a computer in a workgroup other than 'WORKGROUP'.
I have all my computer in one workgroup and my media computer in the 'WORKGROUP' workgroup and it works fine. Also you have to have the same username and password for all shares or you will only be able to access the last share you entered a username password for. I have not tested this out yet but after you import a share into the hd-200 I believe it saves the authenication info. So you might be able to go back into the file browsering and enter a different name and password for a different share and import that share and the hd-200 might save that info too. When you refresh or backup a directory in the file browsing menu it sometimes re asks you for your username and password. I am able to reproduce that by going into a share then backing out to the computer level then going into the first level of the share again. I think you can use this to connect to different shares with different username and passwords. I just gave up though and made sure all the username and passwords were the same for all my shares.
