Can Placeshifter do This?

Hey, i wasn't able to find the exact features of placeshifter but i was wondering if the following is in any way possible!!

Playing a video/music file on device A (files on Server)

A happens to be my laptop... im watching a movie. get tired of watching it on the small screen so i say... let me start my Xbox and watch it through the server.

What do i have to do now. go through filesystem and find the files on the server then Fast forward all the way to however far i have gotten into the movie.

This is what i want to be able to do. Go to my Device X and select "now playing on server" and be able to see what files are in use and continue playback from the same moment that the other device is using. does everyone follow?

If at all possible, can this be done with only a software which i can use on my HP media server?

I don't think there's a "now playing on server" option anywhere. But Sage keeps track of what you've watched for each item in it's database. So if you start a movie on one client/extender, you can pick up there on another one.

Okay will sage allow me to install this software on my HP MediaSmart Server?
and will i be able to use it on device's such as my xbox

Sage has a special WHS version of the "SageTV Media Center" (server) software.

Only PCs (or the SageTV extenders, including the Hauppauge Media MVP). Though somebody did post an XBMC "script" at one point, not sure how it works.

I thought this post sounded familiar. I directed him here from a WHS board.

Placeshifter isn't what you want. First, you'll want the WHS sage version installed on WHS. That will be your sage server.

You'll need external usb tv tuners or the HDHomerun network tuner if you want to watch TV. If not, forget the tuners.

Outside of that, you need a client license for your laptop. And an extender, instead of an xbox. You can watch a movie on your laptop and continue it on the extender where you left off.

Mission accomplished (in a nutshell )

The placeshifter would be used if you wanted to watch movies outside of your network. Say at work, like I do on my lunch breaks. I can watch TV from my laptop through my work's LAN.

Just to clarify: you can use Placeshifter inside your network as well. A client license for a laptop is only necessary if you want to use custom decoders (and to play dvds inside SageTV). I use Placeshifter exclusively (in part because I have MediaMVP's as extenders, and they use the same license) to watch TV on my network.
