Question about hook-up
OK so I have had SageTV for awhile and I love it.
My issue is that I have two tuners and a set-top. When I connected the cable I split the cable. One cable goes directly to one tuner giving me access to all the channels from 1-99. One cable goes to the Set-top and then to the other tuner giving me access to all the channels. Now, when I had TiVo I never worried about which tuner did what. TiVo handled it quite nicely. With Sage I run into issues where it has decided to use the Set-Top tuner for recording one of the lower channels and won't let me change away from it for a higher channel. I was wondering if anyone tried splitting the cable out from the Set-Top and connecting to both tuners. Is this even an option? Am I smoking wacky tobacky? Thanks all. |

You've got a couple options, and it largely comes down to how you setup your lineups.
First things first, you should make sure you've got only got the high channels enabled on the STB tuner, which I assume you do. Next is where the options come in, depending on what exactly you want to happen. First, you could disable all the analog channels on the STB tuner, this would force Sage to use the other tuner for those. The down side of this is that now Sage can only record one thing on those low channels. A "better" solution, is to increase the tuner merit on the analog tuner, this will cause Sage to use it first, keeping most of the analog channel recordings off the STB tuner. But will still allow the STB tuner to be used if there's a low-channel conflict. Now if you want, you can set up 3 sources, like you suggest above, run the cable directly to both PC tuners and the STB, and still have the STB connected to the second card. Sage will handle this, but it doesn't gain you much from a Sage perspective. Sage can still only use the second tuner to record one channel at a time. The only "SageTV" benefit to this is you can have two tuners recording the analog channels without needing an IR blaster. |

Hey thanks for the input. I found another haupauge card sitting in the desk drawer last night. What I've decided to do is put it in and dedicate that tuner to the Set-Top and the other two to the lower channels.
This way I can potentially have 3 shows recording at once etc... I hate to say this, but however TiVo did it, they did it right with two tuners. |
