hd 200 announcements and bug fix question

the last 2 announcements of new beta releases have been in a different forum?

permanent change?

Also, todays notice

Changes for beta version 20090701 0 include the following:

Core changes:
Try to improve network performance when accessing servers with broken tcp window scaling
Updated startup screen

What does this refer to

Try to improve network performance when accessing servers with broken tcp window scaling

and is it something we should be able to or try to fix on servers if we have it and how do we figure out if we have it?

Thanks

It seems some users have servers that don't fill the network buffer in all cases. If you had this issue you wouldn't be able to watch higher bitrate files. We have not been able to reproduce the problem so far. It can be seen by looking at network traces with software like wireshark.

interesting.

I have problems with hi bit rate files with some firmwares, but not with others.

I'll give it a try and let you know.

thanks

It is permanent so far. It was done so that the notification/announcement topics could be open, allowing forum members to subscribe to the topics w/o having other people reply to them.

That's great.

I'll do that myself now.

Thanks

Ouch.

That didn't help. I'm watching slide shows now.

Going back to the 5/5 firmware that continues to play all hi bit rate files very nicely.

Nothing since then has and this ones the worst, sorry <G>.

I have one BLU_RAY rip that stutters like crazy. Others seem to be ok. Could that issue be related to this?

If the issue happens on only one high bitrate file with the latest beta it could be something else.

I got home and updated to 0702 and had the same issue when playing this particular Blu-ray.

One of the m2ts files shows a video data rate of 18858kbps, total bitrate 19114. Audio bitrate is 256 kbps.

Edit: This is not much more than another blu-ray which plays fine. I don't consider this a huge issue since I can view it from the server using another player but am providing the information FYI.

Since the bitrate is low most likely the file has been processed by old software that wasn't following the m2ts format properly.

Okay

702 is much better then 701.

Not a slide show, but still have occasional stutters unlike 505 which is nearly perfect.

My test is an Iron Man blu ray sitting in a blu ray drive on my sage server.

So 505 has been great for playback of blu rays in drive and blu ray rips with last many versions of the server betas.

No firmware since then has been and I've tried them all.

Haven't tried newest firmware with the 19 release candidate, but don't expect that will make any difference??

Thanks

When reading directly from an optical drive you might need to set the property

miniplayer/forced_max_push_size=32768

in your Sage.properties file. This is needed to work around the readahead and cache settings of some operating system and drive.

I'll upgrade to 6.5.19 and then change the suggested setting, but, I always test with a blu-ray rip as well as the disc in drive and both have always failed since 505 and 505 works well with all blu-ray rips and discs in drive.

Thanks
