Will one charter digital box and two tuners work??

Since I have to switch to charter digital, I was wondering if I need to boxes (one for each tuner) in order to record to shows at once. I have Directv right now and need two boxes.

I am not sure how digital cable boxes work because I have never used them. I had Charter before, but just ran the cable directly from the wall and split it to each tuner. Now with the digital switch, we are required to have a box, correct?

How does this work? I really do not want to have two boxes again.

ps.
I am not recording HD.

Cable boxes work exactly the same as satellite boxes. As far as tuning/recording goes.

Now the "Digital Transition" only applied to Over The Air (OTA, Broadcast) TV, at least as a mandate. Around here, none of the cable providers have dropped analog channels. So you can still get those with a run of the mill NTSC tuner and no box.

So, what your saying is I can run one cable from the digital box to the tuner and run another cable directly from the wall to the other tuner and be able to record two things at once. One would of coarse be digital and the other analog, right?

Or is that a dumb thing to do? Should I just run two wires from the wall to the tuners without a box?

I would not be able to get the on demand without the box though.

I'd say that's what a lot of people do. It lets you record all the analog channels "easilly" which may handle most of your your recordings. Then the box will handle the stuff that's digital only.
