Is there a semi-auto way to map HDHR channels under linux?

I see that, under windows, there is an automatic way to remap the channels on an HDHR, by running hdhomerunsetup first. Is there any equivalent under linux? Has anybody tried hdhomerunsetup under wine and, if so, does it help?

I'm not sure exactly what hdhomerunsetup does. Once it figures out the channel correspondence does it store that data within the HDHR itself, or leave a file with the data? Whichever it is, will sage on linux pick it up?

Thanks.

The Channel Editor app from SiliconDust is for Windows -- it is for initial QAM tuner scanning only now, and it isn't fully automatic either.

On Linux, you simply scan in SageTV, then remap the channels/stations as needed. There have been improvements for channel scanning/remapping in the latest v6.5 SageTV beta, so I suggest using that.

So, is the Silicon Dust channel server, and the xml interface to it, of no use at all? Or simply as a list that I can refer to as I retype all the channel remappings?

You need to use the Zap2It channel name and channel number from your provider. There is no guarantee that what is pulled from the SiliconDust Lineup server is that. The latest version of Sage makes it easier than it use to be. Use your browser to open up the Zap2It website and choose your provider and use as a reference.

HDHR Channel Mappings...

I just went through this yesterday. Given that this is (usually--roaming/mobile SageTV Servers notwithstanding) a one time deal, there has not been much vigor put into automating. Any automation work is further complicated by provider/local eccentricities (non-standard channel layouts/assignments, etc), so making even an 80% solution is difficult. It is much easier to just have the user manage the HDHR channel mappings via the HDHR Setup app.

No, SageTV does not use the SiliconDust channel listings. You can look at it in a browser if you wish, but what you need to is scan in SageTV, then preview each channel and either confirm its existing channel/station mapping or remap the channel to the correct station. Watch for the SD versions of channels vs. the HD version when remapping. A lot of the local channels should get mapped automatically now, if the cable company includes their station name in the broadcast, so you may be able to simply preview them to confirm their mappings.

Unless you are using a cable company that regularly moves the QAM channels around, you don't need to scan very often.

OK, thanks. One last question, though. the HDHR, of course, has two tuners. Should I scan tuner 1, do the remapping, then scan tuner 2? Scan both, then remap? I don't need to do the remap twice, do I?

Thanks.

A channel scan should be performed in SageTV for every digital tuner or else you could have tuning problems.

When using the latest v6.5 beta: If the tuner will be using the same lineup as another tuner that already did a full scan, you may want to perform an update scan since that may result in fewer scan result channel modifications to check out.
