Does recording quality affect "live" TV right away?

I noticed lots of mpeg blockiness so I bumped the quality from 1GB/hr to 2GB/hr and I did not see a difference. Is this for buffered TV or just recordings? (I assume they are the same). Is 2GB/hr still too low maybe? I'm just trying to match my old replay under "medium" settings.

How are you drawing the screen, and what is the screen?

Lately I have found 3 gig an hour as a sweet spot.

the change takes effect the next time the video changes, like a new recording, or changing channels.

I like to run liveTV at max 5.6 GB
then do schedule recording(favorites) at between 2.5 to 3.25
2.5 for cartoons like the simpsons and southpark, 3 for anything with live people, and 3.25 for anything with fast motion as well as live people(not cartoons)
I have liveTV at 5.6 GB for when I watch sports
I have no favorites at this time for sports but when football season is here
I will use either 5.6 GB or make a custom setting that is more than 3.25
