AC3, Intervideo, Cyberlink - problems with 5.1 audio

Can anyone tell me where (directory) AC3 is supposed to be installed?
I can't get any 5.1 audio out of Sage's DVD player.
If I open up either Intervideo or Cyberlink players, I get great 5.1

The DVD player in my Sage install only seems to work nicely if I use the Cyberlink drivers.
AC3 ad the DVD audio decoder, I get the rotating circle for a lonnnnnng time.

what's the best way to get 5.1 playback from either DVD disc or from VOB files stored on the Sage drives.

PS - I know how to select "use spdif" in the AC3 Guide, and have toggled that on and off a few times to no avail.
My connection is an RCA spdif from the motherboard right to the receiver. It worked for a while, but I sense either a codec conflict or maybe AC3 is installed in the wrong directory.

Oh, do you have to either re-boot Sage or Windows after making changes to the AC3 config before the changes kick in?

It's installed in the SageTV directory. it's the .ax file and the config .exe for AC3Filter. The latest version is 1.63b that fixes a bug. You may want to download the full ac3filter package and install it. Then copy the 2 files from the AC3Filter directory into the SageTV directory so it is working with the latest. As long as your sound device is working with 5.1 from other decoders it should work with AC3Filter. You can also have AC3Filter show up in the tray and interactively configure it and see the audio streams. Make sure AC3 is checked in the passthru.
