live tv studder when other tuner changes channels
I have a 2 tuner pvr-250 setup with software decoding (for the moment). When I am watching "live" tv (I don't know if it happens when I am watching a recording, haven't tested that yet) and the other tuner changes to record something, my video/audio studders for a couple of seconds. I have had this happen a few times and I am wondering if this is normal, and/or if there is an easy way around it. I can rewind and the video is fine, so it would seem to be an issue while decoding/playing.
If this happens for other people using software decoding, what about people doing the pvr-350 hardware decoding? |

Could be a HDD bandwidth problem. What kind of HDD are you using, is it formatted to 64k blocks? Does CPU usage spike when the channel change happens?

Depending on the speed of the cpu, it could also be a problem of maxing out your cpu for a while while a new recording gets set up, thus leaving little cpu time for the software decoder to do get its work done.

The cpu is a p4 2.2g. The hard disk is a 120gb 7200 rpm seagate. the larger D partition is formatted for 64k blocks. Also the box has 1GB ddr.
I think those should be enough for a 2 tuner system that is doing nothing else. |
