cycle power or leave on?

Do folks turn their HD200s off, or just leave them running? The green "net" light stays on after it is switched off, so i assume it is still using a bit of power. I'm leanig towards leaving mine on continuously

Don't think it matters much. Still having playback and disconnect problems daily either way.

The only time mine get powered off is when the power in the house goes out.

Having been a victim of one too many hurricanes, that no longer happens to us. When off site power goes out, a ups runs the computer and home theater until the genny starts, automatically. saved our bacon during Gustav

I leave it powered on because if you switch off the power it takes so long to restart & be ready for use again that it's just a joke. It takes literally 5,10 maybe 15 minutes (I haven't sat watching closely) before the SageTV menu appears. There is not this long delay if you switch it off & on with the remote but I guess in that case you are just waking it from sleep & not literally powering it on.

the same conclusion i came to. although it does not take that long for my menu to apper, more like 5 minutes, but then it does a directory update. so i just leave it on. so far i've had no issues.

Maybe I exaggerated a little about the time that it takes to start up but 5 minutes feels like an awful long time while my wife is asking why it's not working yet. I am glad to hear that someone else sees the same inordinately long startup times as I do. I was beginning to think that I had a defective unit or some other problem e.g. network. I am surprised that I could find no other posts regarding this issue as all the other pieces of complex piece of electronic equipment around my house power up & are ready for use in under a minute. I am just surprised that the HD200 takes 5 minutes or more. I now have it on a UPS so as to minimise problems.

I liken it to a computer booting up, which i also hate to wait for! Mine is alos on a UPS as is all of the home theater gear. so far im pretty happy with my HD 200!

Instead of hitting the power button to turn it on, hit the Home button. You get to the Sage menu almost instantly.

I reset mine every morning(at like 3:30am I think) via script, mostly because my wife forgets to press stop, so it would record all night. The script also turns it back on, so it's at the home menu first thing in the morning.

I use a harmony remote, so if you hit the power button to turn the TV off, so does the HD200. If anything was being watched at that time, it too will stop and turn off the HD200.

I was referring to the inordinate delay in starting up after plugging in the HD200 power supply. It's another 5+ minutes after that that the box is even responding to any buttons on the remote.

How do you do that? I didn't realise that it was possible.

Use this :

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=251

and wrap a batch file around it eg :

reset.bat
=======

c:\sageextctrl.exe 192.168.0.115 off
c:\sageextctrl.exe 192.168.0.115 on

Then use Windows scheduler to schedule it for the middle of the night

I use that, and also add

Code:
net stop sagetv
net start sagetv

ping -n 20 127.0.0.1>nul
The ping just adds about a 10-15 second delay before I try to start the extender. If you start it up too soon before the server has finished initializing it won't connect, and you're left in standalone mode.

How are you guys getting them to stay on? I just bought three HD200's and the things seem to turn themselves off after enough inactivity... I'm not sure how long it takes but when I come back later, the red light is off and I have to turn it on and wait for it to boot back up. Is there a server setting or something?

Could be a sign of a networking connectivity problem.

I was having disconnect problems as well until my P4-based server died & I replaced it with a new Quad Core. Now my two HD Theater's are rock solid. I was thinking it may have been mostly due to my 100mb ethernet on the old server. Eventhough I had gigabit switched hubs, the motherboard only had 100 mbit ethernet. The HDTs would lock up if I was copying large files to the server.
