Reinstalling SageTV

I need to completely rebuild my HTPC because, somewhere, sometime, a virus or some kind of malware got on my box. This is odd in itself because this is only used as a HTPC. But that's getting off topic.

I'm running WinXP Pro and will be reinstalling XP Pro as well as my other usual stuff, and was trying to find a simple answer...

I have the WebUI and BMT already installed and working perfectly, as well as everything else within Sage (including SageMC, etc..).

I have already copied my entire Sage folder to a backup location, so my question is this - once the PC is back to working condition and Sage is re-installed, should I not be able to just copy back the folder and Sage shouldn't know anything otherwise?

I've seen answers about moving from one OS to another, and only copying the wiz.bin and .properties files, but I don't want to have to reinstall and re-do all the custom BMT and WebUI stuff...

Is there a simple "YES or NO" answer?

SageTV makes registry entries as well. You could install a new version then replace it with your old directory, I presume.

That's my question - I am, obviously, going to re-install Sage... I just need to know if a direct "copy and replace" of the Sage folder will then restore things to the way they were...

I make no warranty on this but as long as you have everything else exactly the same it should work. I have done it and it works fine.

You still need to setup all the codecs and drivers for capture cards etc and install sage first. What I have done is setup sage and the capture cards and make sure the basic new install works. Copy it to a new location and then overlay it with the old install.

Not certain if the Web server add in parts would work.

I have done this before with succes as well but..
Make an image back-up of the Windows partition before copying your Sage folder. Assume this where Sage is installed.
This way you can always go back to this image incase copying folder does not work.
I use True Image for this and has saved me lots of time at instances like this

During the build process you should take periodic disk images. If something fails during the build process, you will not have to re-start the build from scratch.

After you have the system working, take periodic images of the system. If you had periodic images, you probably would not have to rebuild the system now.
