Unhappy Need Help to control Motorola DCT 700 - UIRT

So I take another deep breath and try and get my Sage TV setup working with my new hardware - an HVR-2250 with a USB UIRT. The deep breath is rooted in how disorganized and scattered information is for getting these products to actually all work.

I have two DCT 700 STB's which I gave up trying to get to work with the Hauppauge IR Blasters - and paid which was probably the best $50.00 I have spent since embarking on this project and got myself a USB UIRT.

Unfortunately Sage 6.6.2 does not seem to have out of the box support for STB's - which frankly should be part of the distro (IMO). I found a thread in the Linux forum circa 2007 here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23222 which actually had the remote control codes for a large number of STB's. I extracted the following:

01/03/2007 05:18 PM 7,968 CBL-Cable Box-Motorola DCT700-106
01/03/2007 05:18 PM 7,968 CBL-Cable Box-Motorola DCT700-80
01/03/2007 05:18 PM 7,968 CBL-Cable Box-Motorola DCT700-81
01/03/2007 05:18 PM 7,968 CBL-Cable Box-Motorola DCT700-82
01/03/2007 05:18 PM 7,968 CBL-Cable Box-Motorola DCT700-84

into my %SAGETV%/Common/RemoteCodes folder and low and behold I now have a DCT 700 showing up in my available in Tuner control options...

However when I peer into the infrared codes, there are none displayed, so it appears as though I'm missing something.

If anyone can shed some light on how I can get my two DCT 700's to coexist with my USB UIRT, I would be very appreciative.

I have one DCT700 and one DCP-501 (both Motorola), and both controlled by the USB-UIRT. The DCT700 I setup using the SageTV (or maybe USB-UIRT) supplied DCT2000 set of codes in the ...\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver location. I figured since they were both Comcast Motorola boxes and controlled by the same Comcast remote I would give it a try. My DCT700 worked fine using those codes right away. Just to make it more complete I copied and renamed the DCT2000 (MotorolaDCT2000.ir) file to DCT700 (MotorolaDCT700.ir) and went back into SageTV and re-setup the capture device with the new IR code file. Everything has worked with no problems. To get the other STB to work I just again copied the file and renamed it and changed the codes so the USB-UIRT would control the other box on the second zone.

Hope that helps.

Yep - that worked. In desperation I started copying the individual Motorola codes from that Linux distro (above) to a file called "Motorola DCT700.ir" which I placed into the USB UIRT directory off of %SAGETV%/Common

That had the effect of crashing Sage altogether.

And MAJOR kudo's to the dude behind the USB UIRT device - great product and it works out of the box - what a concept.

Sage - what I'd like to see is a generous splash of supported STB codes in your distro. It's things like this which make this product limited to the realm of the skilled hobbyist, and out of the hands of mainstream consumers.

Many thanks for the user community here who have helped me along with my struggles.

Now the next step will be to try and get all this to work under 64 bit Windows 7 - that should be worth another lost weekend or two.
