Possible way to resolve Sage.PlaybackException:ERROR (-5,0x80040266)

I thought I'd post this info for anyone experiencing the same problem I was. I just finished upgrading to the latest official version of SageTV. Before upgrading, my music (MP3s) played fine (at least the last time I tried them). After upgrading, most no longer played, but instead threw me the following error:

"There was a Playback error in playback. Details:
Sage.PlaybackException:ERROR (-5,0x80040266):
There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content for playback"
(copied from veger69's post because I don't have the info handy + that thread is dead).

I searched for info in these forums, but couldn't really find anything, but I did know that the files played fine in other music players (iTunes, VLC, WMP).

So, it turns out that SageTV was choking (for lack of a better term) on the ID3 tags, which apparently were corrupted. The other players apparently ignore the tag errors, but it seems SageTV does not (I wonder if this could/should be changed?). The solution was to find a piece of software that can check for errors and repair them. They now seem to play fine in SageTV.

I just thought I'd pass this info on in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Strange that the errored files prevented playback... Do you still have a few of the damaged files? Would be a good idea to send them with a bug report to sage to be looked into.

I'm not sure whether it's strange or not, to tell you the truth. I've read about other people having the same kind of trouble with other media players, so that's what gave me the idea to try fixing it like this.

As for whether I've got any damaged files left, I've still got a few. The software wasn't able to repair them, but I haven't had a chance to test whether those files play or not (either in SageTv or in any other media player), so once I do, I'll consider reporting it.

I hadn't thought of submitting a bug report because it seems to me to have been a problem with my MP3 files, not SageTV. But I suppose it couldn't hurt.

While it is true, that your mp3 files appeared to be incorrect, Sage should still have been able to handle them properly. If it was truly just bad ID3 data, it shouldn't have prevented being able to render a playback graph.
