Latest beta (firmware & STV) with music visualizations on HD200

Firmware 20091007 1
STV 6.6.2.17 (2009100701)

Nice job on the new music visualizations. (100 times better than the original ) I'm surprised more comments haven't been made.

First time in channel up/down or multiple changes to different albums/songs didn't kick them off. Neither did stop/play. It was after I had stopped and left the music section and came back in to play a song. Visualizations started immediately. Thanks for the new visualizations.

The visualizations are very nice.

Mine didn't work the first time in or the second time in . The third time was a charm for me. Much better looking.

Does anyone know if the visualizations will propogate through to SageMC, or will the new viz. only work on the default stv?

For them to work in SageMC; the developers of it would just need to make the Video Widget visible while music is playing. (and its possible they already do this, I don't use SageMC myself)

And we know about the issue where they don't work on the first couple of tries. In our testing; thats only after hard rebooting the box. Then once they start working; they will always work until the next hard reboot. If anyone has data that doesn't match that; please let us know.

And I really like the new visualizations as well. Let's see you find another standalone media player that can do that! (I'm not aware of anything besides a PC or game console that'll produce visualizations)

The music visualizations are a really nice touch and I love how 'System Messages' advised an STV update was available with this feature. Excellent work SageTV, dare I say things are moving a little towards mainstream (ease of use etc.).

Do the visualizations work on SageClient or Placeshifter?

They only seem to be going at about 5-10 fps on my HD200, is that what everyone's getting?

They should be moving at full frame rate (don't know exactly what it is, probably 30fps; but it should be completely fluid motion).

Make sure you updated the STV. I discovered audio issues (lost center channel audio on 5.1 recordings)and ended up rebooting the server and unplugging the hd200. Sound came back correctly. That may help but I had full frame from the get-go.

These new visualizations are limited to the HD200.

Is this in the default STV? Any customizations doing something in the background or showing things on the display?

The current rate is around 10-12 frames per second but we're working on improving it.

Yep, that's sounds about right. FYI, this was in HD200 standalone mode, I still haven't tried it in extender mode.

If you can get that fps up a bit more the new visualization should look fantastic.

The visualizations aren't working for me in either standalone or extender mode (with the default STV, of course).

I've updated to the 20091007 version of both the STV and the HD200 firmware.

I see that there is a "visualization:graphics" option, but I just get a black TV screen. "visualization:graphics + info" or "visualization:Song Info" results in an identical result - the floating song info + cover art.

Any thoughts / trouble shooting as to why I'm getting a blank screen?

Did you change the song and/or stop/restart music as suggested in the firmware post?

I had the same problem since updating and couldn't get it to work.

I don't use the HD200 in standalone mode and have never had any import folders set.

This morning I booted into standalone mode, added an import folder for music, then played an album, went to Visialisations and it worked fine.

I then connected to the Sage server, played an album and it worked fine too.

It might be worth giving that a try.

Of course - It could just be a total coincidence.

Yes, quite a few times. Sorry for not mentioning that in my earlier post.

In short, I cycled through 5 or so songs, then went in and out of the music menus a few times, each time playing a song. I then tried it in standalone mode and repeated what I had tried in extender mode. I then went back into extender mode and played/stopped/played a new song a number of times, and also started a TV show, then music again, etc.

I would have thought that one of these events would have gotten the visualization loaded, but it's still a black screen.

I don't suppose there would be any hints in the log?

still nothing

I stopped and restarted the sage service, and have just tried to play > 20 songs, and still get a black screen.

I guess I'll reboot the server and pull the plug on the HD200 and see what happens.

fixed

pulled plug on HD200, didn't change anything.

Rebooted server, and visualizations worked right away in extender mode. Haven't checked standalone mode, but I assume that they are there too.

Not sure why I had to reboot (and others apparently didn't), but whatever...

thanks - they are pretty cool.

I am another that can't get this to work. I've have:
  1. updated Sage to 6.6.2.218
  2. switched to stock STV
  3. Updated STV to 6.6.2.17, file set version 2009100701 (this took me many updates on this since I hadn't updated the stock STV in a long time)
  4. Updated the HD200 firmware to 20091007 1
  5. Restarted both HD200 and server multiple times
  6. Toggled multiple songs backwards and forwards
I get a black screen on visualizations in both stand-alone and extender modes.

I'm not too worried about trying to get this working, but thought others should know this isn't working for everyone.

EDIT--Visualizations now working. The steps I took to get them working:
  1. See steps above
  2. Gave up and returned to SageMC to watch TV
  3. After a couple hours, reloaded stock STV just to try again.
  4. Played a song, hit visualizations--and it worked....
