Comcast, IRMan?
Hello,
I need to track down software for my old Evation IRMan. I'm hoping I can use it to control my COmcast DC50x box. I don't know if this is possible, but I remember my IRMan used to be able to learn signals/codes. My Hauppauge 1600 IR blaster card does not seem to support this newer cable box. I am running the newest version of SageTV. I configured my video input and got to the page for the IR control. There is no option there for IRMan. I would assume to get IRMan to show up there, I would need to install some drivers or software. Does anyone know where I can find the software or does anyone still have a copy of the install disk for IRman? Thanks ![]() |

The only thing I can find on the net is on a site called "Squirrel Solutions". It seems they have the software/drivers, but when I download any of the ZIPs off their site, the files inside do not have file extensions on them.
I have Windows set to show extensions, so that's not what's going on. When I try to run the files, I get the error that Windows does not recognize the files.... |

ok, I am going to need some guidance in getting IRMan up and running for my cable box.
I installed the software and then I'm lost. There's apparently a plugin when I installed the software for Hauppage's software? Am I supposed to install that plugin? I opened the IRMna software and 'learned' the ir codes from the Comcast remote. Now when I set up the source in SageTV, I do not get the option to use IRman to control the cable box. Is this normal? When I get everything set up, will the IRMan be controlling the cable box, or will the Hauppauge 1600's IR Blaster be controlling the cable box? I was also looking at the Hauppauge blaster config and there's an option at the last screen to enable use of a third party blaster software? Do I select that or not? I don't understand what that would do....would that somehow use IRMan inside Hauppauge's blaster software....which would mean I would control the cable box with Hauppauge's blaster? I'm confused on all of this, I just thought after installed IRMAn and rebooting, I would get the option in SageTV to use IRMan.] |

From what I understand the Evation IRman is just an IR receiver. You can use this to control your PC and the SageTV program but it is NOT going to Blast IR to your cable box to change the channel.
You'll need to use the Hauppague 1600 IR blaster to control the box. Use Hauppague support to see if there is a way to get the codes for that box. Other than that I believe people have had success using the USB-UIRT which costs around $50 and is an IR receiver and blaster. Gerry

Hmmm, ok. Thanks for this info. It's been so long since I used my IRMan.
Now, I wonder if I can use the IRMan to learn the IR Codes (which I have done), and THEN use the Hauppauge blaster to send the codes to the cable box. I didn't understand the idea behind the Hauppauge plugin. I wonder if that's the concept. |

ok, I think you are right. Because I had just reinstalled Sage, I went thru the full install process. During that, that is when you get an option to use IRMAN + any remote to CONTROL sagetv.
So I think you're right. That would be if I had the server in line of site and wanted to control it via the IRMAN receiving only. |

I use IRman because it's RS232/serial and not USB - and the run from it in the LR to the garage PC is viable, not so if USB.
IRman can't be purchased now. Boo. It is a simple IR to serial data converter - it recodes each key. On the PC, there are several software packages that take this incoming serial data and take action based on the key code. The actions it takes can be user defined - you map a IR remote key code to a PC keyboard key such as up-arrow. And you can map the codes to specific programs. I have my own code to interpret incoming and take action. |
