Work in Progress convert folder.jpegs/thumbnails to fanart.

I have had several people say they have folder structures in place with simply folder jpegs or thumbnails created by sage and would like to use some of the new imports (ie SMW) that require a fanart structure to work properly.

To that end I am starting work on a quick stvi (may be part of smw or be seperate) that will copy over all your folder.jpegs and thubmnails to the fanart structure system so you don't have to use BMI or manually do it. I am in the early stages but have most of the heavy lifting done I need to know those that use "file-system" views how do you store your folder.jpegs in just the main folder or in all subfolders?

Cheers.

Here is how I have my structure setup...

E:\DVD\
|
+--Cars\
| |
| + AUDIO_TS\
| + VIDEO_TS\
| + Folder.jpg
|
+--The Matrix\
| |
| + AUDIO_TS\
| + VIDEO_TS\
| + Folder.jpg
|
+--etc.

I have my import directory set to "E:\DVD\".

I hope this helps.

Thanks for working on this. It sounds like a great addition.

Thanks that is what I figured. I have most of the work done in java just need to get a quick stvi written up.

For starters it will only support folder.jpg conversion as thumbnails are a bit trickier as most things will thumbnails don't have titles.

I would prefer it if you would copy the file.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to play with what you sent me yet. I hope to tonight. The family has been riddled with colds. And my intown relatives, as well as cold got a possible case of swine flu. So it's been a bit on the hectic side.

I now use Ember Media Manager to coral everything.
My structure is similar to above but all .jpgs ar labled the same as the move so they are:

\\tower\movies

\<title1>
<title1>.mkv
<title1>.nfo
<title1>.jpg
<title1>.fanart.jpg

\<title2>
<title2>.mkv
<title2>.nfo
<title2>.jpg
<title2>.fanart.jpg

I also prefer copy instead of move. I don't want to risk loosing some of these covers that I hunted down by hand, actually a lot of them. Plus when I move the files it is just easier to have all related files in one folder.

Thanks Kricker. It should work fine as it actually just searches for jpegs in the folder and copies it to the correct fanart folder. Folders are created if they don't already exist.

Okay I have verified with 2 people this is working. I will be releasing an STVi shortly for this new utility. I also will be adding into the next update of SageMovieWall internally.

Would it be possible to have a small app, addin (or whatever) to automatically generate thumbnails/fanart jpegs from a video file. I have folders with tons of Kids Shows (i.e. Dora the Explorer) and it would be great to have a way to generate fanart jpeg files. Years ago I used Meedio and it had an addin that allowed this to happen.

I'm thinking what wayner wants is something that makes thumbnails from the video files. Something Sage does already for recordings or imported video and stashes in the generated thumbs folder.

Yeah he I wanting the thumbnails converted to fanart I have that started but not done yet as thumbnails look funny as posters to me but I guess if people want it I will try to get it finished

Yes, but I would like the option of using the Fanart/thumbnails instead of a folder.jpg file if one exists.

Here is the issue - I have an autistic daughter and she likes watching Dora the Explorer. We have a PC in our kitchen with a touch screen and she is able to start her TV shows using Windows Explorer from the folder/file pictures. But in order to properly have photos show up for folders you need a folder.jpg file.

But these video files are all on my WHS box which is also where Sage gets the video files from. If you browse this folder from Sage it will use the folder.jpg file rather than use the thumbnail that Sage generates. Therefore every one of several dozen files has the same picture - which is fromt he folder.jpg file.

Having Fanart background files generated from the video file would be fabulous, particularly since they will not reside in the same folder as the video file.

I look forward to this Plucky!

Here is a Screencap of where we (team ortus) are going with this. I should be able to release a stvi for sagemc within the next day or two, but this will give you a good idea of what we are hoping to accomplish.

It is integrated into the default sagemc fanart options menu.

FanartOptionsMenu

Fanart Type Seach Selection

Fanart results

Basically this STVi will do 2 things.

1. allow you to convert folder jpegs (thumbnails coming soon) to the fanart structure. It supports backgrounds and xbmc structure as well.
2. Allow you to cleanup unused (excess) fanart. With all the changes in titles you can get allot of "junk" fanart and this is to help with that.

cheers

team ortus

Hey PluckyHD! Did you ever make available this STVi? I'm looking to do exactly this. This thread seems to have fallen off a cliff and missing it's climax!
