How are mediaid's assigned/changed

Are the Mediaid's assigned to the actual file or based on folder imports and structure?

In other words if say I have a import directory for videos of

\\sharename\tv

within that folder I have

\freinds
within that folder are the various media files

If I rename that folder to friends for correct spelling do all the media files in it keep their same mediaids?

I'm just curious why the same mediaid's are important?

I thought they were unique for every mediafile in the Sage database.

My expectation would be that if you move imported files from one folder to another (or equivalently, rename the folder they're in), they would get re-imported as new MediaFiles with new IDs. As far as I know Sage makes no attempt to checksum the contents or anything like that to see if they're identical to files it already knows about. (The ID is stored in the database, not in the file itself, if that's what you're asking.)

Seems like it would be an easy thing to check by experimentation though. Import a file, call GetMediaFileID(GetMediaFileForFilePath()) from Evaluate Expression, then move the file, Refresh Imported Media, and try the expression again to see if the result has changed.
