Sage Recording feature request

For the post v2 release, would it be possible to add a "Never record" option? Or at least strengthen "Don't Like". IR, it seems, tends to override Don't likes.

I, for example, never want to record Adoption Stories. Yet, no matter how many times I mark it as "don't like" it continues to appear.

A "Don't record under pain of death" option would be great.

I've found that one of the best ways to convince it to listen to "don't likes" is to make sure you give it plenty of "watcheds". The presence of such positive feedback helps to make the negative feedback more negative... er... you get what I mean I hope.

I find it strange that SageTV treats Don't Like on a per episode basis, instead of the whole series. Does anyone bother to mark episodes they don't like of shows they like, since watched shows aren't recorded again anyway? What's the point?

From previous discussions here, there seems to be some question as to how IR decides that a show will/will not be recorded. I've marked a single episode of a series as don't like & it never showed up again; while other times I have to repeatedly tell it I don't like a particular series. Some shows/genres still continue to appear in my recording schedule. Perhaps whatever criteria it used from the other watched shows that it uses to guess what you might like overrides 1 or 2 'don't like' settings... but I agree that if you don't like a show, it should stop suggesting them over & over. And, I don't think I even want to attempt telling SageTV that I don't like 1 episode of a series I normally watch... on the off-chance that it accepts that for the entire series! (Yes, marking it as watched will usually prevent it from being recorded again.)

For all I know, I've marked so many completely different types of shows as liked (watched) and don't liked, that I've managed to thoroughly confuse IR, causing it to simply give up and insist on recording things like wrestling, horror, and those "all-women-are-victims" type movies. For those of you who remember those conversations about IR... I did remove Lifetime from my listings & just like I predicted, it chose other channels to serve as last-resorts for filling in blank time. Let's see... I should now remove WE, MTV, & CourtTV. If I could remove all listings for mid-day soaps, I would...

jominor: Don't forget to file a suggestion in the Bug Submission Form if you want Frey to see it. (They may read the forums, but that is the official request line.)

Heh. After finally mostly convincing Sage that I don't watch children's animated shows it started in with the lifetime made-for-tv movies. I wonder if their algorithms tend to end up favoring certain types of programming.

I think it is probably an issue with the data in the guide
the episodes may not have a specific code just a general code for the show and Sage may not respond to don't like in this maybe ????????
anyways I really like the guide but it does need to be upgraded to contain things like first aired and better episode number maybe if there is no code then do it by either current date or original date
I am still afraid to add sportscenter as favorite for the chance that I will open up Sage after two days and thats all there will be, at least if it was my first favorite
(I need more storage)

also if sage IR does default to lifetime/WE/LMN then they are obviously trying to get women to but the product or something...........

The guide does contain first aired if you go to the Program Information screen. I think the favorites option to keep at most X number of episodes, would prevent your hard drive from being filled. The Originally aired date is no help with SportsCenter either because its just as generic as the ShowID. The networks are to blame for generic data, as can be verified by looking at alternate programming sources like http://tv.yahoo.com/ .

yeah ok keep x number would work for not flling harddrive but I would have x number of the same episode then also since it would just record that episode so x many times and not save the other
moving an episode from the day before to the library is a task if I cannot get see to it (I would not want to have to do it everyday, you?)
setting a manual recording is not an option either for it may interfere with a higher priority favorite then where sportscenter should go
from what you said there needs to be a option then for sage to only record a show once per day (you just whenever not always the same time)
(it could even come up in the conflicts screen asking if you want to record it in place of one of the x number of conflicts)
also I have a problem where the world's strongest man is two back to back episodes but Sage always only records one of them (not always first or second either)

furthermore when this football season comes I want Cowboys Games not every NFL game

there needs to be an upgrade !

As I said, Lifetime has been removed... and now I have a recurring battle with General Hospital & One Life to Live. Just _how_ many times do I have to say I don't like those shows?? Are they like the Love Boat, where every person employed in Hollywood has guested on those shows at some point, so if they guest appear in another show, you'll get bombarded with soaps? Maybe it is the latest game: 6 Degrees of General Hospital. They were gone for a while & I sure wish I knew what incantation I did to summon the curse of the soaps again...

Soaps, Horror, Wrestling, Reality, Women-are-always-Victims movies, Animal Planet, CourtTV, MTV... IR just doesn't give up.

I see comments from people who say they've got IR trained to only record a couple shows a day & those are generally decent selections... HOW did you accomplish that!? Do you only watch 1 type of show in the first place, or do you watch just about any genre of TV show, so anything is OK? I don't plan on turning IR off, since it picks up some decent stuff I wouldn't notice otherwise (haven't looked at the paper's TV guide for quite some time), but the constant battle with the stuff listed above is getting tiresome.

Tonight I had the fight of the golden oldies from the honeymooners to golden girls to I love Lucy (and the Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour), I dream of jeannie, the munsters, etc, etc. Plus the continuing invasion of "Docudramas" and teen-oriented sitcoms (do I really need to tell it more than once not to record Saved By The Bell?

At least a large part of the problem, though, is me. I think that I'm just not giving it enough input. I'd dearly love to be watching all my tv on Sage but there is an ongoing WAF struggle going on in the family room and it is a little dicey. I always have it pretty much running fine, and then I'll talk her into watching a program with it and SOMETHING will come up. It always does. Maybe it is her negative thoughts. That's it. Anyway, I do what I can getting her to watch one show a night off of sage and trying to go through and set the watched flags for the shows we watched on TiVo. But I can't help but think that I'd be getting much better service from IR if we could just take the plunge and switch over. I'm ready. She isn't even close. *sigh*

It sounds like Sage has played a cruel joke on you all
I have never enabled this but I am guessing that the two brothers since this is beta still have set up IR to do a little of what is suppose to do and alot of stuff it is not
any time the real crap that airs on TV comes on and you say do not like
it knows to record it
They probably have predefined all the "real crap" somewhere just bored one day and thought it would be funny to screw with the beta testers
as soon as version 2 retail is released it will work perfectly, watch for yourself......

IR was a little out of control for me when I did a fresh install. However, once I started actually watching things (and setting others to watched), IR was tamed rather quickly. It really seems to need some positive feedback (in the form of "watched" shows) before "don't like" becomes an effective weapon.

I'd like to see the trashy Entertainment show on Jennifer Connelly, but not on Emmanuel Lewis... so I'm appreciative of this feature.
