Questions from a new users.
Ok, new to SageTV, just want to make sure I am buying the right product for what I want.
I have and XP Pro machine with the Hauppage USB 950 on it, shows up fine as a 980 in SageTV and I can control remotely from my Windows 7 machine. I'm an IT guy, so I have computers throughout the house. Do I need to purchase the client for every PC? I move around from room to room, so we're talking about 5 pc's plus a laptop. Two XP Pro machines, two Windows 7/FreeBSd machines (dual boot), and a laptop with Windows 7/Ubuntu. Also, I want to be able to tell the SageTV client to also look at the local machines for stored video/photos etc. Is that possible? Right now when I configure it only let's me look at the XP Pro machine that is acting as the server. I don't want to go broke buying SageTV pieces for every single OS and PC I run. Thanks, Tim Bryant |

Yessir, licenses for all clients.
You can point it to any networked/shared folder you want, also. |

You should first decide if you need the client or Placeshifter. See the FAQ for the differences. The client has a fixed license which means a license for each computer you plan to use it on. You can move the license but that requires a reboot of your server. The placeshifter has a floating license, so you only need 1 for each viewer that will be using it at the same time.

The best way to setup SageTV is to have one headless server and HD-200 units at each TV where you want to watch SageTV recordings. It's possible to use client software, but the HD-200 has many advantages. It is small, silent, reliable, works with SD or HD, and it draws very little power. A SageTV license is also included with each HD-200.

Ok, I just want to take the client I am on, and point it to C:\Users\username\Videos
Running Windows 7, and for some reason SageTV Client does not see the folders under C:\Users\username\ Thanks |

I don't believe you can do that. From a SageTV Client you will only see paths relative to the server. You will either have to share the folder you want and use UNC paths or map it from the server.
