anamorph x264 Video in mkv container

I am trying to play nkv files which contain anamorph video (720x432 but with an aspect ratio of 2.37 [PAR = 1,42]) SageTV is playing them but is not obeying the aspect ratio of the video. Even though the correct aspectration was passed on during muxing and every single video player I threw at this file is playing the movie correctly (well except for sagetv).

Is there a fix to this or is sagetv simply not able to understand anamorph videos?

It understands them just fine. Try changing the aspect ratio using the remote. Maybe it is being set as 16x9 instead of source.

Tried that, doesnt change - just provides different amounts of distortion

I'm having this problem too and it appears start happening when
mplayer/use_for_mkv_playback is set to false. So I guess mplayer respects the aspect ratio but whatever is being used when it's set to false isn't. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and using Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder from the native recording patch but it doesn't matter what decoder is being used.

The files I'm having this trouble with are dvd rips made with Handbrake. I also tried remuxing one of them with mkvmerge which oddly makes the video play squished down more than it should be instead of stretched taller.

The reason I don't just use mplayer instead is that I can't get ac3 audio to work. Everything's reduced to stereo when it has a 5.1 DD sound track.

I just discovered if I switch to using overlay instead of EVR it uses the right the aspect. So I guess that's my solution. Anyone know why this EVR (and VMR9) is causing this issue for me?

Well darn, it just got even more complicated. My dvd rips in mkvs using xvid have the right aspect ratio using overlay, but I did some new rips this week with the latest Handbrake using x264 and it still doesn't use the right aspect ratio overlay :/

I just had problems with Handbrake. It keeps turning off the "keep aspect ratio" and other settings on me. Seems to depend on what type of video you feed it. I've started checking all 3 main setting (picture, Audio and subtitle (caption?)) every time I select a new video.

This is with anamorphic being used? "Keep aspect ratio" isn't controllable for me when either strict or loose it selected, maybe I should try custom.
