No sound w/ Placeshifter on Ubuntu 8.04
When using a Placeshifter on my Ubuntu 8.04 machine I have no sound but the video is fine. The computer sound works OK for all other applications...and I can use a Placeshifter within Virtual Box under Win2K and the sound is working fine! ??
Does anyone have suggestions for fixing or troubleshooting this problem??

Ubuntu sound support in sagetv
Sagetv uses the alsa sound drivers and they tend to get locked by other applications also using alsa.
Try shutting down all applications that may have locked the sound driver such as rythmbox, firefox etc. Generally logging out and logging back in will usually do it but you may also have a zombie process locking the driver. Try looking in your process list for a "mplayer" process while sage placeshifter is not running, and if you see it, kill it. ltburch2000
