Was there anything special about the Hauppauge MVPs that were purchased from SageTV?
In Jan-08 I purchased 3 MPVs directly from SageTV. Now I'd like one more, but of course they are no longer available from SageTV. It looks like I can just pick a used on up on eBay, but my question is: Will Hauppauge MVPs that DIDN'T come from SageTV work? Did SageTV flash the firmware, or will any old Hauppauge MVP work with my SageTV system? Thanks!

The only thing special was the purchase from the Sage store included an extender seat license, the hardware is identical.

Thanks, stanger89, that is good news. Also, thanks for the reminder about purchasing an additional Exender License as I'll need to do that. FYI: the MPV is for the exercise room, with my new years resolution to get on the treadmill . . . I figured I better get SageTV running in there if I have any chance of sticking to it
Happy New Year, and thanks for the help.

Just so you know - the placeshifter and extender licenses are the same. You only need one license for each placeshifter or extender that is powered on and connected to your server at the same time.
So, for example, if you have only 2 people in your house that use Sage, but you have extenders set-up on 4 TV's plus a place-shifter client on you laptop, you could still get by with only 2 licenses as long as you remember to turn-off the extenders that aren't in use. However, it may be more convenient to have one license per device so you don't have to worry about remembering which devices are connected or disconnected. As a bonus, I like Sage as a company, so I feel good paying for their products, knowing that the revenue stream allows them to stay in business and keep providing support, adding new features, and developing new stuff.

Tiki: Nope, I didn't know that. But just like you, I'll be happy to pay them the $30 license. I'm getting more benefit out of the system, so it makes sense to me. I love my SageTV!!!!
