Favorites Feature Request

When you let us configure station options for favorites, we can select one station or all. I'd like to request that you let us specify stations to exclude from the all option.

As an example, I'd like to record This Old House from the local PBS station, A&E, etc, but I'd like to exclude a nearby PBS station that can't seem to get it's act together. Today they're screwed up in that the broadcast are in mono on the left audio channel only, instead of stereo. The only way to do that currently is to deconfigure that station completely, which means I can't view any shows on it at all. I'd prefer to just prevent it from being used to record favorites.

Re: Favorites Feature Request

I posted a request to be able to specify more than one channel for favorites, but I don't remember whether I actually submitted the request through the beta bug submission form. (Hey... what happened to the bug form? It used to be on the beta download page...) Here is Frey's response, so they are aware of it. I still think it would be a good feature to add some day, but I'm sure it is on the back burner for now, if it is even anywhere near the stove at all.

Edit: Oh. I found a link to the Bug Submission Form on the Request Support page. I think I'll request it be available on the beta page again...

I wondered if I was the only person to think of that kind of feature, I was surprised not to find it already worked that way. Hopefully they'll bump the combined request up a notch or two on the list since more than one person has requested it now.

The more I think about it, the more I think that I only commented on it online. The submission form is the 'official' channel for requests (not just bugs), so it may not be on their list of things to consider when there is nothing better to work on. You might want to file a request to be sure it gets filed appropriately. While it will work to set up the same favorite for multiple channels, it seems easier to simply check off which channels are allowed.

I think some combination of both is probably what's needed. In my example case of This Old House, I have no idea how many cable channels might carry the show so if I had to specify which channels were allowed, I'd probably miss some.

If I was presented with a list of channels where I could specify one, all or some combination, that would cover both your and my methods. I could select NONE and then click on specific channels to allow them to cover your case, or select ALL and deselect channels I knew were bad to cover mine.

Sounds like a good refinement of the idea.

That's what the Channel Setup screen allows & is a good way to edit that long list to include all but a few, or exclude all but a few.
