Blu-Ray DTS

There's been several threads on this but I want to make sure I have it correct.

I have three HD200's all directly connected to HDTV's via HDMI. As far as I can tell none of the TV's can decode DTS at all. I have added AnyDVD-HD and a BD drive to my Sage server and it works great with the three BD's I borrowed for testing. I have now added Blu-ray to my Netflix account and will start recieving my movies in BD soon.

I should look at the description of each of my queued BD's and verify that it has audio in Dolby or PCM and if it says only DTS then I should choose the DVD version. Correct?

If you don't want to rip the BD first and convert the audio, yes.

-ot I'm really quite surprised at how many people apparently watch BD on systems with only TV speakers.

I was going to say something quite similar. I don't think I could stand using TV speakers for anything, let alone BluRay...

I have the TV audio output going to a 2 channel amp that powers Def Tech Mythos speakers and a dual 8" sub. Do I use the TV speakers, no. Do I use the TV digital decoding yes. Can I decode DTS, no.

Instead I convert DTS into Dolby Digital using ClownBD. It only takes a few minutes longer than a normal rip and you don't have to keep the extras that take up space. Run ClownBD directly from your BD drive. Don't rip then run ClownBD because that takes too much time.

so..

so from this thread, am I to understand that Sage cannot play ripped Blu-Rays with 5.1 surround sound? If it can't I might as well not even try to get a BR drive.. this is a mandatory thing for me to play a Blu-Ray..

Is that what is being discussed? If that is the case, is there a reason?

Sage can play ripped Blu-Rays with 5.1 surround sound. The issue is with DTS tracks. DTS tracks need to be fed to an A/V receiver to decode the DTS track. TVs follow the ATSC standard and decode AC3 audio tracks but do not decode DTS tracks.

When those of us that save our BDs to hard drive save the movie, we build an AC3 track to add to the mix for those movies that have only DTS tracks. If we want audio from our TVs w/o an A/V receiver.

The better option for TVs would be to have the HD200 downmix the DTS track to stereo so TVs could understand it. But that's something that would require an HD200 with a different chipset/firmware.

I have an A/V reciever on my wish list for the living room TV but probably not going to bother for the bedroom TV's unless I can find something small, cheap and stereo. I am just waiting until after I buy my new house and I know how much is left of my savings account. No unnecessary purchases 'till then.

No ripping for me. I have no need for a video library. I record/rent, watch, and delete/return.

Thanks all,

I hit this a while ago and the other solution that I'm seriously considering is a soundbar that does dts and dobly digitial decoding.

Products like this

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Will take multiple inputs and makes a receiver unnecessary while getting you much better then TV sound in small integrated form factor.

I'm still looking for one that won't need a separate remote. But wait, I don't need that anymore I've got a URC R50 powering my LCD/extender so it would be no problem adding any old soundbar
