I think my HD100 just died...

I was watching a show when it suddenly stopped working. Now the power light flashes intermittently..about every 4 seconds but it will not turn on. Ive tried unplugging, letting it sit, and plugging it back in. There was smell from the HD100 that resembled the smell of burning right after it stopped working. It reminded me of my college electrical engineering labs when a circuit or power supply burned out. I suspect this is the issue. I emailed support to see if there are any things I can do to confirm. If it is indeed dead, I suspect the cost of repairing might be more than just getting a HD200. Any ideas or suggestions?

The cost of 3 capacitors should be cheap enough. I hope your soldering skills are up to date..........

The cost of repairing it is ~$10-15 if you can find the caps. You should be able to get them at radio shack.

The HD200 is a great addition if you are looking to move up with a faster extender.

Check to make sure your system is not under warranty. Sage repaired my via warranty and I have been happy with it as well. I actually purchased the HD200 sent my other one in for warranty support and use the HD100 in my office so I had little down time.

Wow. I didn't realize there was such a large thread around the HD100 since mine has lasted almost 2 years. I bought this with my Amex and they double the warranty. Assuming this has a 1 year warranty, I'm still in year 2 so Amex would cover the repair. I could do this myself, but I'll probably just get it done for free. Soldering was never my strong suit in college..

There is a no-solder option too.

How did you put this on an Amex card? I didn't think the Sage store accepted Amex. I got a Visa Signature card before I bought my HD200 for that reason (they also do warranty extensions).

Sage did have a 1 year warranty on the HD100, so Amex should extend it to 2 years. I'm curious how that works out for you. I bet they will just give you $200 so you can buy a new one yourself, but I've never had to try to use that feature before.

I haven't bought anything recently from the Sage store but the definitely took Amex back in 2008. I got my initial SageTV license and extender with it. I just called to file a claim. They said it could take up to 3 week for someone to review and contact me but based on the info I provided, they said they did not want a repair estimate which the Rep told me usually means they will just reimburse the purchase amount. So...wait...they might give me $200+ vs. paying $39 for a repair? Does that make sense to anyone else?

Waiting 3 weeks sucks...but I think I can manage if it means getting all my money back. I'd love to get my money all back and then fix it myself.
