Ortus Screenshot & Information Thread

Hello,

Its been quite along time since we last posted anything about Ortus so today we decided to let a few screenshots out into the wild

If you have any questions or suggestions about what you see/read regarding Ortus here is the place to ask/request/suggest.

We are getting close to a private beta version but there are still numerous bugs/additions to be worked out/added...... therefore we are still 3 or 4 months away from a public beta version. Hopefully as things progress we can share more specific details and screens of the final version.

Today's screenshots show the Main Menu in action, one of the main theme's behind Ortus is the dynamic backgrounds which follow you around throughout the STV. Each section of the STV has its own background image (these can be changed by the user)... so basically TV has its own background, movies, music etc. These backgrounds will only appear if no fanart is available for a selected media object or if your navigating the Main Menu bar. The Main Menu or home screen allows the user to quickly and easily see newly added media or in the case of the TV Guide your channels.

Anyway, enough waffle....here's the screens.

Team Ortus
(please note this is a TEAM effort)

Oh yeah! Looks like I'm the first to view this one, and boy did I pick the right time! I love the look, clean and consistent. Looks very intuitive from what I see, and the customization capability is even more of a bonus..

Happy WAF!

Ok.. I cant PM the group, but I have a dedicated client for beta testing dual WHS backend, Placeshifter and clients. Will sign a NDA.

Very impressive, everyone. The interface looks very "sleek" and clean.

Not that I ever use it, bue is there a grid style EPG as well? It seems pretty limited to show just what's on now...

Looks great though!

If your refering to the screen that was posted then thats just a quick at a glance...."Whats on TV now" or "What new Movies have been added" or "What new TV Series have been Recorded or Imported".

Ortus does also use a normal guide like what you would expect to see, its based on Tivo's guide system.

Cheers

Ben

Looks really nice. Are you guys at all concerned about the alleged new Sage 7 and if all your work will still be compatible with it (or have you been in contact with Sage about this)?

Very good.. though perhaps the title for the 'what's on tv now' list shouldn't be 'Guide'... might confuse some (like it did just me)..

Yes we are concerned.....but as long as we're having fun making it then whats the worst thing that could happen

I guess the worst thing would be that it could only be used with the current Sage system.

Cheers

Ben

What shows up when you scroll left and right in those menus (guide, TV series, etc.)?

What are the checkboxes for? I'm assuming for multi-[delete, play, watched, etc.].

When you scroll left or right you guessed right...."Whats On Now", "Recorded TV", "TV Series", "Schedule" and "Favorites". Those all come under the Main Menu bar "TV".

The check boxes are for "Watched".....ultimately you will assign different colored ticks for different user's and there will be one multi-color tick for when multiple user's have watched that media object.

Cheers

Ben

Sound good for just about all of that, except for the checkboxes. Personally, I'd prefer just about anything other than a checkbox, since that means "selected", not "watched". I always liked the eyeball with a checkmark going through it or the multitude of "W" icons. Knowing the skill level of the people working on Ortus, I'm sure those icons can be changed pretty easily by the end user, though. If not directly in the UI, then I'm sure by swapping out the image file.

Yea, it wouldn't be very easy for an end user to swap that out as the tick is also used in the menu system....I think I'll add another tick just for the watched so it would just be a matter swapping the image for another of your choosing.

Cheers

When you say Tivo guide, are you referring to this style?

If so, you've just saved me hours of work trying to figure out how to create this in Studio
