today's alternatives

I have not yet watched a full show on the internet but understand that there are multiple options today. I have SageTV running SageMC that I haven't reloaded in quite some time. We need to redo our SageTV so that we can bring it up-to-date for hulu.com among other things that might be available today.

SageTV doesn't appear take full advantage of internet television today. What are my options today? Is SageTV + SageMC still the best way to watch TV?

Have you not seen the PlayOn plugin? You can watch Hulu in sage with it.

If you're running an HTPC rather than an extender you can also just launch Hulu Desktop and use Event Ghost to send it remote control commands.

SageTV + SageMC is still the best!

Some of us prefer JUST SageTV... ;-) While I do have Hulu Desktop installed, and it works great from my remote, via Girder, I VERY rarely ever fire it up. I've got more than enough recorded content I still ahve to watch to ever need to delve into the online stuff.

Last time I tried Playon the quality of the picture did not match What I could get on the PC directly. (To Xbox360) Is this still the case?

I tend to reserve some series and accumulate episodes to watch after reruns start but eventually I will run thin on decent choices before the new season starts. I don't use hulu or Netflix much now but last year it got some use over the summer. Mostly checking out shows I didn't follow when they came out.

Also: I find it useful for checking out something new. Can can usually check it out and catch up on older episodes of something I just found out about. Going forward I would set it up as a favorite.

For the longest it was but after the last play on update I did, the picture quality is a lot better.
