MoCA for Streaming to extender
I just switched my (old, I know) wired MVP extender from using a WiFi bridge to using an ethernet-over-coax MoCA bridge-pair. I considered used Motorola units off eBay and new from Netgear or D-Link. Not a D-Link fan, I took a chance anyway - price much lower.
These things were plug and play. Just layer 2 bridges, apparently IP-unaware. So far so good. Might provide 100Mbps or more net yield at the IP layer. The OFDM bit rate is said to be over 200Mbps per the MoCA standard. MoCA allows for multiple units and addressing. Better than WiFi in 2.4GHz here where it's getting crowded. And cheaper than going 11a/n WiFi. Cable modem on same cable is unaffected. Anyone else used the D-Link DXN-221? I do have one question if you have. Of course, wired is always better than wireless. |
