HDHR displays no signal in Sage
I just returned from a trip and the HDHR is not functioning in Sage. I receive a no signal error. It works perfectly in the HDHR setup utility.
Troubleshooting thus far: Restart everything Rescan channel Update hdhr firmware from 20090802 to 201002 whatever.... No joy. Anyone have some ideas? Aaron |

Are you sure you are running the latest SageTV STV? Many times people will update the HDHR Firmware, but forget to update to the latest STV and often it doesn't work. Generally there are changes in the HDHR firmware that require minor changes in the SageTV STV in order for the HDHR to work with SageTV.

still no joy
Thanks for the suggestions but I'm running the latest STV as well.
I should mention running Vista x64 edition and everything has been stable for at least 6 to 9 months! HDHR in sage when tuning - no signal and having troubles in video tuner setup HDHR setup utility works perfectly and scans for channels. |

Did you re-scan the channels in both the HDHR software and in Sage? If not, you should (scan with HDHR software first, then Sage).
Did you re-scan both tuners in Sage? If not, you should. Did you check to make sure the .scn files were actually being generated in the Sage Folder after running the scans in the HDHR software? If they are not, you have a problem. Do you have UAC enabled in Windows Vista? If you do, it will try to put the scn files in the Sage folder inside the Windows Virtual Store folder. If not, they will go in the Sage installation folder (c:\program files(x86)...). Do you have Sage installed in the default location (C:\program files(x86)...)? If not, and you also have UAC enabled, the HDHR software will be unable to create the scn files.

Doesn't the Sage property file sometimes mark a tuner as "Do not use"?
You might check the Sage property file for status of the tuner. |

really hosed
I have Sage installed in C and E! I had a raid issue a while back and copied everything over to make sure I didn't lose everything with Sage. I just tried and failed at deleting one of the copies of Sage.
Obviously something is configured or logging in both directories....my best bet might be to reinstall but here is my dilemma. - All recording are in E drive by design - HDHR is installed on C -HD PVR is installed on C - The Sage TV c:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV .exe brings up the configuration screen which leads me to believe the E: version is appropriate. I deleted the C version, launched the E drive link and sage recordings and hd pvr functioned ok - but then Sage crashed. Clearly Sage is writing or accessing something from the default C drive folder. I restored the entire Sage folder and now basic recording watching and hdpvr work fine. Concerns: 1) Not losing Sage TV recordings which are configured in an E drive directory (If I reinstall how will the new version of Sage see these recordings?) 2) HD PVR is setup perfectly with all channels for my lineup in the order I need them - how do I preserve this? 3) Should I reinstall? What are key setup or configuration files so I don't have to start over on anything but the HDHR? Last edited by profit; 03-27-2010 at 05:45 PM. |

I haven't seen any responses in awhile...
If I was in that situation without a recovery plan, I would shut down SageTV, copy the Program files\sagetv directory, format, and load everything from scratch. After the reloading, try to determine which files might resolve the problem. This is the type of situation where an image of the C drive could have probably fixed this problem in 30 minutes. Dave |

screen shot
I don't need to reinstall windows - that works fine. The only issue I am having as is is the HDHR magically quit working as it did recently for some others on the forums. My sage setup has actually been stable for 6 to 8 months. I didn't make any recent changes and returned to find the HDHR not responding within Sage. I can record but the display is no signal. Cable strength isn't an issue as they put a booster in for me a while back.
Can anyone tell off hand what the critical files are? I would hate to have to reinstall Sage from scratch.... Last edited by profit; 03-27-2010 at 08:39 PM. |

My HDHR just quit working as well. I have exactly the same problem; I can preview the channels fine *outside* of SageTV, but inside Sage, they all show as "No Signal". My system is up-to-date and I haven't changed anything for about 6 months now. Strange...

After a rescan on the HDHomerun side and a rescan in Sage, I got the channels back. However, I had to copy the channels to a duplicate lineup for the 2nd tuner before I was able to preview them in Sage (guess that means they wont auto-update now)

The most important file is probably wiz.bin. This is a giant database that keeps track of everything you have watched or recorded as well as all your favorites, and a bunch of other important stuff. If Sage doesn't see a wiz.bin file when it starts up, it will create a new blank one. After that, there are files called Sage.properties and SageClient.properties. These keep all the settings (like which tuners are installed, which EPG lineups each tuner uses, and pretty much everything you can change from the detailed setup menu. Be careful when copying these files over if stuff is installed in different directories, since there will be properties in these files that point to specific file paths that might not be valid. If these files are not found when Sage starts up, Sage will create new ones with default settings. Sometimes it is best to just let Sage re-create these files on a new installation, since it will clean out a lot of junk that may have been accumulated over the years as you add and remove various imports. If you use any imports, such as the dynamic menus or the weather report suite, they may have there own configuration files or helper files, which you will also need to replace. This is why I recommend backing up the whole Sage folder to be sure you don't lose something important. I recommend getting everything working (tuners, remote control, recording directories, favorites, etc.) with the default SageTV STV and no extra imports installed before trying to add any customization back in.

installation
I resolved this issue by deleting a duplicate copy of some Sage files on my E drive (long story)...I backed up my wiz.bin file and proceeded with an update path as detailed by Opus in the forums.
But I also had to delete the sage.properties etc files and reconfigure Sage then add back my HDHR tuners and HD PVR and configure the channel lineups. I noticed the HDHR scan was showing two versions of the same channel for all four locals on time warner in Cincinnati (ex: wcpo and wcpodt). I disabled the wcpo version as well as the guide was having an issue. Now HDHR shows up in Sage and works again. That was maybe the first or second problem in 2 years! Thanks for the posts as you brought me to the right steps! Last edited by profit; 03-30-2010 at 06:04 AM. Reason: Solution Found |
