Monsoon Vulkano alternative to HD-PVR?

I ran across a few reviews of the Monsoon Vulkano (used to be called Volcano) and apparently it will be able to stream 720p h.264 video across the LAN. The release date was originally March 2010, but has obviously been moved back.

Just curious if anyone has heard if it will be capable of streaming to Sage like the existing 480i boxes?

Well, considering that their original units did so, I am assuming that the Vulkano will as well... if they incorporate the drivers. The product line used be called HAVA, but, like SageTV did (used to be Frey...) they changed their name.

The HAVA was cosidered a tuner to Sage in that it incorporated a BDA tuner driver into the package. With the exetuner plugin for Sage, you could then change channels...

Check out my tagline...

Do you have pointer to the reviews? Looking at monsoon site, I just see this
"Stream high-quality video at H.264 and MPEG-4 standards at 150kbps"

If I'm doing the math right, 150kbps for h.264 s not that high which indicates that the might cap the resolution. Does anyone have one who can speak for the video quality?

It's been so long that I don't recall where I read the reviews. I think the 150kbps is when placeshifting across the internet, but I could be wrong.

I did find this link: http://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/...no-recordings/

The 720x480 PC/mac/tv mode looks pretty good. Too bad the myvulkano.com site is so vague. I don't see myself upgrading from hava anytime soon. It looks like it provides the same resolution as Hava but in an MPEG4 instead of an MPEG2.
