Plugin Manager: Upgrades

So I go to my list of installed plugins. UI tells me an upgrade is available - excellent! I click on the details screen, but the release notes shown here are the release notes for the currently installed version. To read the release notes for the update, I have to go back to the list of all plugins, find the plugin I want to upgrade then read the new release notes to see if I want to upgrade.

Ideally, the release notes for the latest version are shown on the installed details page. Or maybe the release notes for the installed version and the new version are shown? Either way, I don't want to have to go back 3 screens to the list of all plugins, find the plugin of interest in there and then read the new release notes from there to make an upgrade decision.

I would also like a list that shows all the updates available for all of my currently installed plugins. Right now I have to 'tab' over to each section to see them. I'd like to have one combined list.

The release notes on the detail page should match the version of everything else on that page. It should not mix details from different versions on the same page.

However I agree that when I see that an upgrade is available, it's usually the details for the new version that I want to see. So maybe there needs to be a button on that screen somewhere to toggle the detail display between the installed version and the new version. Or display them side by side in a two-column format or something.

If an installed plugin has an available update, there will be an option to view the updated plugin's detailed info in the plugin's pop-up options dialog.

I'd like to know when new entries are added to the plugins list. I'm waiting for several plugins to be updated to work with v.7 and it's painful to have to go through all of them each time.

Wouldn't it be easier to just suscribe to the SageTV v7 Customizations forum? You would get an email each time a pluginis added\updated.

I am subscribed. And I'm hopefully subscribed to the individual plug-ins that I'm waiting for. It's just with all of the traffic there, it's easy to miss things. If sage would color new plugins, or let me select to just see the new (or changed) plugins, it would make the process easier for me.

And you'll see more than you want from that thread. Maybe they'll create a Customization Announcement for v7 thread which would work better for this purpose. Plugins showing up in different colors would be cool. A color for new and a color for updates to existing ones.

FYI, there's a web-based plugin browser that sorts by date (among other things):

Yes, but does it work with v7 (I didn't see it in v7's plugin list).

It works with your web browser, independent of SageTV. And it's not in the V7 plugin list because it is the V7 plugin list. Just click the link and you'll see.

Java Heap monitor just had an update and Update Available was shown in color on the installed plugins page.

It would be nice if this was also indicated as a system information message so that I knew to check.
