SageTV 7 licensing question....

I have an original SageTV v2 full license and then I bought an upgrade key to v6 (don't hate - I used MCE for a while). I am wondering if I can jsut get the upgrade key to v7 or if I have to get the full license.

Thanks,
Brian

Upgrade is fine. I started with 1.4 and have never used anything more than an upgrade key since that.

Upgrade key not recognized

Hi - have the same question regarding licensing.
Have a license since 2004 - then upgraded to 6 and now bought the v7 upgrade.
For some reason the keys are not being accepted. I tried all three keys - none work!!

This is a fresh install of win7 and sage7.

Anything I'm not doing - that should be done, any sequence of activations etc??

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think you have to do them in order and do all of them. Meaning, if you started a while ago, you may need to input several keys. When I input my V7 key, I had to input my orignal key, then my V6 upgrade key, and then my V7 upgrade key. I didn't attempt to do them in a different order but I'd have to guess that it probably matters since each one is building upon the next. Also, each time a key is entered correctly I think you get a "Key saved" message or something along those lines.

IIRC all you should have to do is enter your original "full" version key, and then the V7 upgrade key.

Original key not recognized

I bought my original license key from PCalchemy a few years back (2004)......that code is not being accepted by the license manager.
When I enter the v6 upgrade key - it is recognized and asks me to put in the original license key.....so my v7 upgrade is still stuck at trial.....
Any suggestions? Not heard back from Sage support on this yet .

Thanks!

You shouldn't have to use a previous upgrade key - just the original key + the v7 upgrade key.

Make sure any responses from SageTV are not being blocked by your spam filter. And, I'm not sure how long ago you contacted SaegTV support, but it can take up to 72 hours to get a reply, depending on how many other support requests are in front of yours.

Question - and this will sound silly - where can i enter the version 7 key - every time the software starts it tells me its on a v6 key and will need to be changed in the next 21 days, but i dont get the option to provide the key?

I tired the placeshifter/extender utility - but it rejected my v7 key

I got all my keys from Alchemy until they went out of business and they all worked fine for the V7, even with a fresh install.

The dialog will appear when starting the SageTV application on the server. If you are using service mode, try disabling the service & start as a UI. Once you enter the key, you can go back to service mode.

Where is it telling you you have a v6 key? If that is a dialog at startup, doesn't it have a button to register the software?

Right,

I have the system running as a service, then on the same machine i start the client which initially prompted for a key, I pasted in the V7 key, but it rejected looking for the v6 full key, which it accepted.

The client then launched, so i quit out.

Launch the client again, expecting to be able to provide the V7 key, but instead i do get a nice message "You currently have a pre-V7 SageTV key installed. You need to purchase an upgrade key to use this version beyone the trial" with just a OK button. Click the OK, and the client launches again. - so no enter the V7 key..

So - i just stopped the SageTV Service, and launched the Client again, following your advice. get the same darn message - BUT - now all my settings appear to be lost as im asked to select my country! and still no way to provide the key!

got to go now and see if i just screwed up my configuration

Update: no - stop the client - and start the service again. now all is back to normal. but still no idea how to licence this

Win7 x64 in default install folders.

damian.flynn,

Before it gives you the message about having a pre-V7 key installed; isn't there a dialog which indicates "This is not free software...it's a 21-day trial...blah, blah blah" which has an 'Enter Key' button on it? Just click that and then you can enter the key.

Damian. You keep mentioning you ran the client on the same machine. I just want to make sure you didn't actually install SageTV Client on the same machine as you installed the SageTV Media Center. When you say client you mean you are running the SageTV.exe from the regular server install right?

No, you correct its just the sageTV.exe from the regular server install, not the SageTV Client - sorry did not mean to confuse terms - im using hd200s and a hd100 as the real clients

I just set a friend up with a Sage7 beta and he is having the same problem. He had a 6 key and we bought a 7 key. we built a brand new box with just seven installed. once we entered the 6 key we are not being asked for the 7 upgrade. we are just being told the 6 key will expire in 21 days. what can we do to get the 7 key entered???

I think you can do this from a command prompt. With SageTV shutdown, go to the SageTV directory and type:

sagetv.exe REGISTER

I think REGISTER must be all caps to work.
