UK EPG data on Windows Home Server

I am at what I think is the final hurdle.

Now running Sage7 server on WHS, with a sage 7 client PC successfully.

Unsuccessfully tried to install Digiguide, Stephanes Importer and the XMLTV utilities on WHS.

Have Digiguide working on client pc running XP.

How do I get Stephanes importer working with Digiguide?

Do I have to install and configure this on a non-WHS machine for it to work.

Thanks for you help in advance.

That worked perfectly up to the very last step.

I have downloaded Digiguide, configured the web service with DG2XML perfectly. I am actually using XMLGUI now instead of DG2XML which works perfectly.

I have successfully run the SageTV XML Importer and mapped all channels without issue.

On restart of SageTV - I AM USING SAGETV 7, at the source tuner setup, I have readded my source (HD Homerun), selected the US, Canada or XMLTV option for the EPG.

I am then presented with Cable/Satellite or Over-The-Air. I am Over-the-Air but this simply shows a list of US, Canada options so NO GO THERE.

I select Cable/Satellite and choose zip code 0000 and I simply see a list of US/Canada cable providers but NO XMLTV Guide Lineup.

What am I doing wrong and how do I get SageTV 7 to pickup the XMLTV data I now have successfully stored on the Windows Home Server.

Very close but no banana

Hmm, are you sure you imported the guide data as the final step in the XMLTV Importer setup?

Try restarting Sage again, make sure the service is shutdown if you are using that.

I have done tuner setup again recently with Sage 7 and it was the same as 6.

I have now followed step by step Sisokkos guide from the sticky at the top of this forum.

Much closer; But now when I enter zip code of 0000 I get;

NO OPTIONS AT ALL.

I have installed the xmltv piece and edited the sage.properties file as requested and copied the xercer.jar into the jar folder.

The only deviation from the instructions is that the xercer.jar in the sticky link no longer works so I got this from a google search.

Any ideas Gents?

Post in the XMLTV importer thread and I'm sure Stephane will help. That problem used to be because you'd not stopped Sage to install the importer but I have a feeling he does it for you now

I thought we didn't need xerces.jar anymore, but again Stephane will know

Yes I don't believe xerces or manually modifying the sage.properties is needed any more.

Personally I follow this from Stephane:-

I will try Stephanes guide first and then post in the XMLImport thread.

The only error from the import was (a warning - for one channel to a category). Does this program AUTOMATICALLY CREATE THE epgdata.xml file in the SageTV folder or do I need to do this (I do not have the DONATOR version yet until I have proven it works).

I do need to check that all the steps I have done are necessary.

I know I need Digiguide (or similar) as a source. I have then configured the web server to use the DG2XML skin.

I am then using XMLGUI to create the data.xml file.

Then we use Stephanes importer XMLTV Importer for SageTV.

All correct? Could I have missed any of these steps?

Thanks
Simon

No. DG2XML (or in your case XMLGUI) creates the epgdata.xml file and it can go anywhere. Stephanes importer loads this XML data into Sage.

Yes.

You could have missed some, only you know that

I have everything working now.

Digiguide, XMLGUI and XMLTV Importer for SageTV.

I can watch channels and use the EPG.

HOWEVER 3 questions:

1) Is there a free-reliable alternative to Digiguide (Radio times no longer works I believe)

2) Not all my scanned SageTV channels appear in the Digiguide Metadata (missing Sky News, BBC News, BBC 3, BBC4 for example in the guide data). Am I missing something here; surely all Freeview channels should be available?

3) What is the best way to automate this process end-2-end? Do I need more than the donator version of SageTV XMLTV Importer (Stephanes stuff)?

Thanks
Simon

Don't know sorry.

I guess that's down to you using the XMLTVGUI program for your data - Digiguide with DG2XML gives me all the channels.

Just Stephanes importer - it will create a scheduled task daily that will call your XMLTV grabber and then import this into Sage. Sage will automatically refresh it's EPG once a day with this new data.

I had a few problems with Radio Times and have not had a single one with Digiguide. its well worth the £10 a year if you ask me...

Thats all I have, the donator version will schedule a task to grab the data from Digiguide and import into Sage. If you have the Sage web server installed, you can even use that to force an EPG update (or wait til Sage does it 24 hourly as Starfire mentioned)

Thanks Gents.

I will take a look at MC2XML (which I assume grabs from Windows media centre listings?) otherwise, a £10 subscription it is from Digiguide.

If you care about accurate EPG listings then 10 pounds per year is a small price to pay. The Windows Media Center listings can be woefully inaccurate & they often take weeks to get around to updating changes in channel numbers or new channels being added.

Nope, I use XMLTVGUI and get all the channels. As an aside, I just did a full reinstall of the machine which does the XMLTV, with new OS etc., and DG2XML still gives inaccurate listings for me so I went back to XMLTVGUI.

Rickygillion,

How are you automating the XMLGUI process (I find this more accurate for channel lists as you suggest)?

Thanks

I just schedule a batch file to run every day, something like this:
Code:
set xvid=C:\XviD\
set log=%xvid%XMLTVlog.txt
set sage=Y:\SageTV\
set gui="C:\Program Files (x86)\XMLTV GUI\XmltvGUI.exe"
echo %Date% %time%: XMLTV Started >> %log%
%gui% /Grab /d14
move /Y 5.xml %sage%
echo %Date% %time%: XMLTV Completed Successfully >> %log%
If you are missing any data (channels) from the file, you may need to put a 1-second pause in one of the xmltvgui scripts, "C:\Program Files (x86)\XMLTV GUI\scripts\uk_digi\uk_digi.lua":
