New setup - Wrong channel tuned (ITV3 instead of ITV1) - any ideas?

I have just done a complete new setup using WHS and SageTV v7.0.11beta. It has been a little fraught, but now seems to be running smoothly - except I just found that it tunes to ITV3 instead of ITV1 for live TV and recordings.

I am using Stephane's importer with DG2XML. I setup a fairly limited Freesat lineup using a .frq which I generated by doing a full scan then edited it down to the channels I wanted.

I imported the .frq file into XMLTV Importer, mapped the channels to the Digiguide data, made sure the physical channel numbers matched the channel IDs in the .frq, and set the logical channel no.'s to the order I wanted the channels to appear.

ITV1 (Meridian-S) is channel no 287, it shows correctly in the guide, I checked the frequency etc. against Lyngsat data to be sure, but it actually tunes to ITV3 for live TV and for recordings. ITV3 is channel no 294 and it tunes correctly. So I have 2 x ITV3 and no ITV1.

I attach the .frq file.

Any help here would be much appreciated - after several wrong recordings of Corrie, I'm not sure my permission to play with this will last much longer!

Thanks.

Depending on how & where you installed Sage you can have problems on Vista (& I assume Windows 7) with UAC & the Virtual Store. You think that you are editing the file but none of your edits seem to 'stick' in the actual file in use. If this may apply in your case try switching off UAC & then try editing again.

BTW You did not attach the .frq file to your post.

Hmm...I tried to attache the file, thought it had worked. It says "Invalid file", so I have added a ".txt" extension.

I don't have UAC issues - I'm editing the file on WHS via RDP. I've been quite careful with that.

Try shutting down sage completely, edit the frq entry for 287 and set it to another station you know from your frq, then restart sage - confirm then that tuning into 287 then picks up this new station.

If it does, that proves your frq is being read correctly and I can only assume that ITV1 perhaps isn't being broadcast on the entries you had.

It if doesn't, something else is amiss and your frq is probably correct and something else wrong.

By coincidence, I did my first update scan yesterday. In short, it appeared to trash my DVBT tuners. Much the same as you, I was left with channels tuning to other channels.

10 minutes of headscratching and fiddling, I opted for removing the tuner from video sources setup, removing all traces of overrides etc from the properties file and starting from scatch.

When I rebuilt my server last Sept. I didn't edit any .frq files, in the past I've found that too error prone.

I did a scan to find all channels
I disabled them all
Then went through enabling the ones I knew I had EPG data for. It probably matched about 80% of them, the remaining 20% had to be matched by hand but one of the Sage 6.x releases brought in the ability to check if a channel had EPG data in the tuning window (Forget exactly where...)
I then did an update scan in the evening to get BBC3 etc (The ones that weren't transmitting when I did the original scan)

If the .frq is correct then you probably have Sage remapping the channel number to ITV1 then.

I never do a scan. I may use DVDViewer or another DVB application ust to confirm that I am able to receive a particular channel but I always use a pre-prepared .frq file (You could try the attached as it has most of the channels in your file). I never use the scanning or mapping facilities within SageTV as that is more prone to error & mysterious problems than is a .frq file & Digiguide DG2XML & Stephane's importer.

Thanks for the replies - I'll give the various suggestions a go and let you know how I get on...

Thanks guys - I've fixed it. I used Starfire's suggestion and discovered that the .frq files didn't quite tie up with the edited .frq I had used to create the lineup.

The thing I learned which is invaluable now is that the .frq for each tuner is loaded when SageTV restarts and that the physical channel no. in the lineup (not the logical channel no.) is used to match with the corresponding channel ID in the .frq for each tuner to find the tuning parameters. That's probably obvious to everyone else, but I wish I had known that a long time ago, it would have greatly simplified my setup process.

Much appreciated.
