Is there a way to completely delete USER categories from within the UI?

Setting the 'user' cat for SageTV recordings is working fine. As are the new categories for videos. Just looks to me that these are separate functions. ?
They are completely separate from the built-in categories used by TV airings and and those used by imported videos. We added user categories for airings because you can't/shouldn't edit the built-in categories for airings, where the categories come from the EPG data.

You don't have to use them. If you don't assign any user categories, they won't be shown when configuring a category filter on the recordings menu.

Ok, I just now moved up to 7.0.15 from 7.0.13

I see the User Category Option on the PC Client, but the HD200's in house don't seem to have the option, and I haven't found a way to get at it just yet. (even after updating one of them to the newest beta firmware)

Is it just simply not enabled for the Extenders, or is it buried in the Malore menu's?

The STV update downloads & installs a new STV. If you don't see the changes on an extender, then either the extender is set to use a different STV or else it hasn't reloaded the default STV since the update (power cycling the extender will also reload the STV when it reconnects to the server).

Now that I've figured out how to use these custom user categories for airings, I'm totally loving it. You've just upped my WAF and KAF significantly!!

agreed, once i get through the trudgery of assigning categories to my favorites, I will be able to split my malore screens more easily to 'Me' 'Wife' 'Parents' and 'Kids'. or whatever I end up calling them.

The light bulb for me was discovering I could change the default recording submenu. Once I got through that the lightbulb went off and I happily went off and edited all of my favorites.

It proved a little more bizarre in my case, while I did install and update up to 7.0.15.5 through the PC Client(and could use the User Categories through it) on Monday... The HD200's were showing me a system message on Tuesday telling me that the 7.0.15.1 update was available. Once I did the server update through one of the HD200's, they finally allowed me to gain access to the User Categories on the HD200 boxes and the User Category settings made from the PC Client were already in place and working.

There is only one STV Server(on a WHS Box) in this house, so I'm not really sure what was going on there.

I guess get sure that no recording and no favorite uses that user defined keyword.

This is not bizarre at all. I thought you meant that the STV update was installed on the client UI on the server, not a separate PC. When you installed the STV update on your client, that only installed it locally on that client. You have to install STV updates from an extender or on the server for any extenders/server UI to be able to use it. Each PC client would need to install it separately.

There is no mechanism to remove a user category. You can manually remove it from the server's tv_categories/user_added property (a comma separated list). It will still show up in the list shown in a dialog if any recording, MR, or Fav uses it.

Among other things, tonight's STV update adds the ability to delete user-added category names and adds new modes to allow adding/removing selected categories to/from all items in a group. So, you can now edit the categories for multiple items w/o having them all set to the same category list.

STV update details:
STV version 7.0.15.6, file set 2010082601 Update

Is there a way to revert back to the default recording views? I was playing with this feature not realizing I was overwriting existing views.

Use Options -> Menu Options -> "Reset all settings for the 'what's its name' view"

This is a great enhancment. Is there a way to set the filter to display recordings that do not have a category? It appears when you filter on "None" it displays recordings regardless of their category.

What I would like to do is see only the recordings that have not yet been categorized.

What you do is set it to exclude all user categories. This will show just those that haven't been excluded (so uncategorized items).

Adding support to include/exclude by an "unknown" category was considered, but it wouldn't do much because the category filter works on the built-in categories/subcategories from EPG data + user defined categories. Almost everything has category data from the EPG listings. So, when filtering, even if there are no user categories for an item, it still won't be in the 'unknown' category if there is EPG category data for it.

Andy, two questions.
Is it possible to rearrange the order of the recording views in the main menu?

I took a look at the SageClient.properties and it looks as if the menu always shows this order:

xAll
xRecordings
xArchives
xMovies
xView5
xView6
xView7
xView8

I'd like to have the Archives and the movies/recordings at the bottom under the xViews.
No need for a GUI function to reorder them. Can I do it in the properties file?

Second question:
I enabled the hidden extras because I need the default padding.
What I don't want is the malore custom recording view which I got under my user defines recording views. Is there a way to hide this "Customized Recordings" entry? "Enable malore's custom Menues" is disabled (set to "no") in detailed setup/customize/unsupported extras.

No, you can't reorder that unless you use Studio.

You can just rename the recordings menu Items and the reset the filters accordingly.
