IR Remote and Focus Application

Hi!

Has anyone encountered a problem where the IR Remote program (mine is the Haupauge one) will send codes to the current application that has focus rather than to SageTV? Has anyone figured out how to correct this?

uh not with SageTV, it does have a way to do this with WinTV2000 though
if you hit the red button while using WinTV2000, it regains focus
you might try to look at the setting of WinTV in the remote.ini and see if you can do the same for SageTV
I know I will try it out if you do it
but I watch pretty much always full screen

Currently, there is no way to get the Hauppauge remote to send its commands to an app that does not have focus... I've been trying to work out a way to do that, but no luck so far.

But, as long as you have a button assigned to start/run SageTV.exe, that button will bring SageTV back to the foreground & it will regain focus. Usually, this would be defined in the [Default] section of irremote.ini, but you could put it in the [SageTV] section too. A problem occurs when you are using the same remote button to both run and exit SageTV -- then this method may not work too well. The best solution is to use one button to start SageTV & another to exit/sleep. Then, you would use the ON button (defined in both [Default] and [SageTV]) to run/restore focus & the OFF button to only sleep/exit.

There is more information regarding using the Hauppauge remote & editing its irremote.ini file at the links in this FAQ entry.

Update: there is now a way to use the Hauppauge remote without requiring SageTV to have focus. See this FAQ entry.
