Should I buy sagetv for use with HD PVR?
Hello,
Finally have a computer that can manage video from the HD PVR (see sig). I currently use a cable co dvr and plan to continue using it. I will occasionally record HD to my computer for archival purposes. Since it's only occasional and will be from the recorded programming, is there an advantage to buying sagetv over using the software included with the HD PVR? I will change channels on the dvr manually rather than use an IR blaster. Thanks for any advice! SageTv would only really be useful to you if you planned to use your computer AS a DVR, and watch it from various locations around the house using media extenders. If you just want to record an occasional show from your cable DVR to the computer, then the Arcsoft program is all you need. What SageTV will do, is allow you to watch those shows you have archived to the computer, view your photos, play your CDs and DVDs, and watch online content, on your TV via an ethernet cable. To actually use SageTV as a DVR or second cable tuner, you would need a NON-DVR cable box, because if Sage were recording something, and the DVR changed channels to record something else, you would end up with a screwed up recording.

Sounds like you just want to be able to hook the HDPVR to the cable co dvr, hit play, and have it record to the computer. If that's the case, TME that comes with the HDPVR would be sufficient. Of course, by not using Sage for your media center you are missing out on a LOT
