Will there be a recorder in 2.0? Should I buy recorder now?

I have an HTPC client/server network, and I'm setting up another client machine right now to support a new plasma that will be shortly forthcoming. I bought another PVR-250 to support it, turns out it's a V16, and I have a V15 in the server right now. According to what I've read here, this means I can't co-locate it.

Whereas my original plan was to put SageTV client on the new machine, and put 2 PVR-250s in the server, the above hardware issue prevents that. As if that wasn't enough, I noticed the SageRecorder UI is far inferior to that of the SageTV Client. Hence, I was thinking about moving the SageTV server software to the "client" machine near the plasma, and putting SageRecorder on my HTPC "server". Both machines will be on 24x7 so that's not an issue.

I noticed a post somewhere that said that Recorder will be wrapped up into SageTV or client in 2.0. Do any of you guys know anything about that, and should I even bother buying Recorder now?

You will still need to buy SageRecorder to setup a network encoder. I would also buy a copy of SageClient to use as the front end on the network encoder.

Hmmm. That's $20 for Recorder, $30 for Client. For $60, I could get a full SageTV server license.

Are there any plans to integrate multiple SageTV servers and distribute the work?

The value-add I can think of by having a 2nd server is that if one is down, the other could be a hot failover, taking over the recording of shows. Obviously I'd have to configure the client to point to the backup PC, but shows would still record.

I really can't handle potentially missing the Sopranos...

Users have talked about wanting a peer to peer SageTV solution but no word on one. The nice thing about SageRecorder is that you only need once license per box. So you can have multiple instances of it going controlling multiple tuner cards.

I treat that last sentence as a drawback in that you must have one copy of recorder running for each tuner in the box. I'm lucky in that I only have one network encoder, but I would really hate having to get multiple instances of Recorder configured and running on the same box.

fidget,

Only one licensed is required per PC, not per tuner.

I know that, but you must have one copy running for each tuner instance (correct?). It would be much easier to have one invocation managing all tuners rather than having to invoke SageTV Recorder 'N' times.
