Disk Array

Anyone here using a stand alone disk array? My Dell server is running out of room yet again and I am looking for a larger solution. I was looking at the promise 16 bay SATA chassis. I am concerned the read and write speeds might not keep up with all the recording and playback required for sage. Any thoughts.

Thanks!

You'd really have to be more specific on what enclosure and interface you are talking about.

I was considering the "Promise VTrak J610sS" however I doubt anyone here is using it. I was looking more for what is everyone else using and how do you like it?

At that price, wouldn't you be better off just going with something based (for example) on the Norco 4020 and putting everything into one case? I just used the 4020 for my build and it was a lot cheaper than this and has more hot swap bays, but to each his own.

Further, Fuzzy's question was simply asking which one you were looking at, not because someone might be using it, but rather the technology behind it (aka throughput of the interface).

I know I am just being mean to Fuzzy

I hav ea Dell 2900 with 8 bays currently. It isn't expandable and if I were to replace the hardware then I would have to move the array or deal with moving the drives. That isn't really what I was looking for long term. Also I was thinking of using the 2900's bays as a back up set of disks.
