DVD section not recognising disk in the drive?

When I try to play a dvd with SageTV or Sage Client I get a "there is no disk in the drive" notice, WinDVD plays the disk fine, why is Sage not detecting DVDs in the drive?
Any ideas?

Interesting you posted this. I tried to view my first DVD on RC3 and got the same error. I know it worked with 1.4.10, but thought maybe I had done something wrong with the RC3 install.

I did notice that the DVD I tried to play tried to load that intractive app that comes on some DVDs. I hit cancel, but Sage still would not recognize that there was a DVD in the drive.

On a side note, how do I tell XP to never run the auto.inf found on media in this drive? Wondering if that impacted Sage.

thanks,

Right click the DVD drive in My COmputer and select the options for AutoPlay.

And I believe there is also a reg file in the SageTV directory that you can use so that DVD's will autoplay in Sage.

I have the same DVD issue after installing RC3. Sat down to watch Master and Commander and could not get sage to recognize disk in drive, had to use PowerDVD. - It worked in RC2

Not good. I'm going to watch Master and Commander tonight

I did try to change the autoplay thing, but it did not make any difference, it still tried to install the software that was on the DVD. I hate that software.

Has this been reported as a bug in RC3? Or are there people out there that have the DVD working in SageTV RC3?

Crowdx42 - Interested in how the quality of WINDVD compares to what you get (or used to get ) from Sage.....My PowerDVD 5 provides a far supperior picture than the one from inside Sage and I dont know why - hoping to use the Studio to replace it.
-- Apparently either nobody else uses the DVD or noone cares judging upon the response to this thread.

Just tested Sage TV client and it doesn't see the DVD in either of my drives. This does appear to be definitely broke. Please make sure to file a bug report.

For those of you that were asking about not loading the autoplay.inf, I submit that autoplay CAN be useful in certain cases. What IMHO is not useful is the autoplay on DVD's. If only there were a way to still use autoplay, but not run the installer on Video DVD's, that would be great.

BTW, there is such a way. I use a program called AnyDVD. It does many wonderful things with the DVD drive like kill the autoplay on Video DVD's only. Another is that it removes the usage restrictions. For example, some DVD's won't let you skip the FBI warning. With AnyDVD, that "restriction" is removed and you can skip past it. Or you can change subtitles or audio or angles whenever you want and not whenever the DVD wants you to.

Good luck...

FWIW, I gave playing a DVD off the drive a shot today and it worked just fine.

For those of you having problems, do you have multiple optical/removeable drives? I think Gerry is probably right, looks like it might be a bug related to multiple drives.

Stanger89,

I have this DVD problem and don't have multiple drives.

For me, it only seems to be the Sage Clients which cannot find the DVD, and not the Sage Server which can play it.

Regards,
Ben

Ok just checked it out again. I had not tried it since I Ghosted back to 1.4, then reapplied RC2 then RC3. Now it appears to be reading the disk, though it seems to be a bit slow, I will experiment further later, but this is something interesting to try.
I dont know if it initially works with a fresh install and then breaks after settings are changed or something of that nature. It would not suprise me, since it was changing settings that somehow hosed my system up so badly I had to go back to 1.4 then reinstall sage 2.
Something interesting to try for those that have the time and interest.

I can also confirm that the Sage server plays DVDs just fine. So it appears this problem is strictly a Sage client problem. I only have one DVD drive on my server but it appears the problem on the client is either single or multiple drive based on Mike Young's posting.

I want to be clear on the apparent meaning of my previous post....that the actual PROBLEM is probably not on the client ! (though it shows up on the client)
The client DVD began working for me after I went back to 1.4 and reinstalled RC2, then RC3 on the SERVER, I did not touch the client! In fact I never even shut the client down to my recolection...it lost contact with the server but I put it to sleep and woke it up and it was fine.
Very strange indeed!

So what version client are you running? DVD's worked for for me on every version except for the latest RC3 and for me the issue is at the client. Sorry if I muddied the waters.

Im running 2_0_18RC3 on the client and on the server, what I am saying is that I did not immeadiatley test the DVD right after installing the RC3 on the client, so I dont know when it stoped working exactly on the client other than sometime after RC3 was installed, at some point I had the 'no disk in drive' on the client....but the same intstall on the client began working AFTER I reinstalled the Server, I didnt have to do anything to the client to get it working again - So my point is the acutal CAUSE of the problem doesnt seem to be the client, since I did nothing to the client to get it working again.

I tried to watch a recording on the client a minute ago and was getting freezing...rememberd that I never re-set the property use_blocking_socket_for_mediaserver=true
after I re-installed the server. On a lark I tried the DVD again and I got the DVD error message again, so it was broken once again.
I put the client to sleep, went downstairs exited sage server and changed the property, restarted the server and now the client DVD is working again ???
dont know for how long.
I think it definetly has something to do with the server.
