HD300 Choppy sound @ 1080p

I received my HD300 the other day and everything works fine except (and it took a while to figure out why) choppy sound output.

My setup is as follows:
Sage beta 7.0.16 Linux OEM on Ubuntu x32 10.04.
-2 x SA SD (don't remember the model) to Hauppauge PVR-500
-1 x SA HD 4250 to a Hauppauge HD-PVR
Dell 5212 gigabit switch
HD300 with a wired connection.
Samsung LN37B530 HD TV

I have an HDMI connection and when I set the output resolution to 1080p the sound gets choppy. It does not matter which sound format I select (of the digital ones).

To test I enabled 720p, 1080p and 1080i and as soon as I switch to 1080p the sound starts to get choppy. It does not matter what I'm watching SD cable, HD cable or H.264 movies.

The box is advertised as doing 1080p but this seems like a hardware limitation. Is this a processing issue or a defective box? Any help would be appreciated.

I just installed the latest FW (20101007-0) on my HD300 and it still has the audio drop outs if I set the output resolution to 1080p59.97, which it has done in every FW release so far.

Yes I was one firmware behind. I'm up to date now (20101007-0) but I still have the issue.

Is anyone else outputting 1080p successfully? Let me know your details, what are you decoding etc.

I'm going to update my server to 7.0.19 tonight as well but I don't think it will make a difference.

There are known issues with v 7.0.19 and you may want to wait for 7.0.20!

Most likely you have bandwidth issues.

This is a known issue and I do not think it has anything to do with bandwidth. This issue happens on all of my video files regardless of bitrate or resolution using the HD300 set to 1080p59.97, set it to 1080i59.97 and all is good. If I am not mistaken we are talking about resolution and not bitrate. FWIW this does not happen on my HD200. When 7.0.20 comes out I will give that a try.

I'm having this issue with HD300 (firmware 20101007-0), and 7.0.23.1 (linux 2.6.35-23). Did anyone in this thread get it solved?

In addition, in 1080p, it looks like there are random bright pixels all over the place, that move whenever anything on the screen moves. It looked like my TV suddenly developed 100 stuck pixels, but then they all changed as I was navigating the menus.

Go to 1920x1080i, and it goes away, and sound is back to normal.

Latest beta firmware is 20101209-0. I would upgrade to that first and see if the issue still exists. I would also check your HDMI cable. One that has gone bad can produce those "sparklies".

Glad I found this thread! I had a popping and cracking noise on all HD Audio tracks and have been working on figuring this out for weeks...

I changed my Video Out to 1080i and audio is great now... Support wanted me to send back both my HD300s but it surely looks to be a firmware issue now. I will let them know.

mines the same

When ever I set the output to 720p@50 or 1080p@50 and watch something with at lower resolution (p/i) I also get audio drop out.
If I watch something with the same resolution as my choosen output all is fine.
So for now I have it at "native" output resolution, but my old screen is not happy about all the diffrent resolution and hertz my diffrent videos are in

But for now Live TV look good and work.

lastes firmware (also tryed beta) and software.

edit 01-02-2011:

Tryed 1080i@50hz and no dropouts for hours, if I swith to "p" dropouts comes back again.

So mine is the same problem as kkelley929 i guess? The picture on 1080i does not look good on my old screen.
It likes 1080p alot better then 1080i.

I have uploaded one video clip wich has choppy sound to sagetv's ftpserver.

I hope it is an easy fix

For info: the same video will play on my Xtreamer just fine using the same hdmi cabel, ethernet and even the same powersupply as my HD300.
It also plays fine on 2 pc's and on one samsung BD player over LAN.

If you notice "sparkling" pixels in the picture at 1080p the audio data will also have wrong data which can cause audio dropouts since the audio receiver/tv will get invalid audio frames. In that case the first things to try are using different hdmi cables and hdmi inputs. If that doesn't help contact support.

Great suggestions.

I haven't noticed any "sparkling" pixels in the picture when audio drop out.
But I did a second check - Still not seeing any sparkling.

I have on both 1080p and 720p when upscaleing from SD.

My Xtreamer, PS3 and HTPC works on same HDMI cable and input - but I have tryed changeing it arround.
Did'nt help.

Great news !

I loaded the new beta firmware today.
I tryede playing 1080p@50 last night again and play one file that I kown would give problem (also uploaded it to sagetv ftp!) and watch some SD tv channels that would give me problems.
I HAD NO AUDIO DROP AT ALL
So something in this beta firmware fixed it

Try it out !

Edit: 01-27-2011 : Had audio drop out again.
Played newly downloaded fil (old ones still works), and had audio drop out running 1080P@50.
Chaning to 1080i and audio drop out stopped.

Does anyone work with SageTV on this problem?

Beta firmware 20110124-2 (newest)

Gives med audio drop out on all my live tv channels and on my recordings when I run 1920x1080P@50.

Most drop out on lower resolution 720x576i@? less on 1280x720P@50 and some times several minuts between on 1920x1080i@25

When I play my recordings the drop out do not happens on the same time stamp every time.
