Question Is there a sub $500 Netbook that can handle 1080p?

Preferably between 11"-13" screen, is there a sub $500 netbook that can smoothly playback HD-PVR 1080p files?

Yeah, looked at those on Amazon. Kinda strange that the 1215PN has a single core with ION2, and the 1201N has a dual core with first gen ION. I'm not sure which performs better or why they can't make a dual core with ION2?

Anyone own these netbooks are similar ones?

I'm not sure if the Vostro by Dell qualifies as a netbook, but it's small light and supposedly can handle 1080p.

Was Amazon's description wrong? I keep seeing Dual Core Atom D:

It has Optimus Technology that translates in more efficient battery usage based on the CPU load and finally, it lets you play some of the most amazing games out there, at low/medium detail. The use of Atom D525 and next-generation ION graphics is a winner combo as it scored nearly 1000 points more in 3DMark06 benchmark compared to Asus 1201n that came with Atom 330 and first-generation ION graphics

I'm not sure the single core couple with the intel GMA 4500 can handle 1080p, and the dual core version pushes the price well over $500. Its a great looking netbook though if you are just looking for a regular netbook.

Sorry, I mistaken it for the 1201PN, which uses the atom N450, which is single core. Looks like the Asus EEE PC 1215N is what I'm looking for, dual core Atom D525 and ION2. Base from reviews, it should be able to handle 1080P from the HD-PVR. Thanks.

Does the HD-PVR do 1080p? I thought it was a 1080i / 720p device.....

Take a look at Lenovo Thinkpad X100e, one model has a dual core CPU. I bought 2 of them: one for a Doctor who I set up Dragon Medical voice recognition for dictation, and another for a point of sale station running QuickBooks POS.

While they were in my possession for setting up, of course I had to run them through the SageTV client and Placeshifter tests and even though the GPU is an ATI HD3200, they worked fine on 1080p and 1080i. Small, lightweight, and I love Lenovo's anyway. These are kinda low-end, but worth a look. Nice little machines, 11" bright LED backlit screen. Battery life isn't going to win any awards, and it runs warm, but for the price it's excellent.

Rob

PS- they performed better than my Lenovo X61 Tablet with a dual core pentium - and that thing was $2000 2 1/2 years ago - crummy video though.

it does 1080i, but if a netbook can do 1080p, than 1080i shouldn't be a problem right?

There might be a flaw in that logic - interlaced decoding is more processor intensive than progressive. I don't know any details, but I bet someone will jump in soon that does....

Good option, though not sure I go with AMD/ATI over Intel/NVidia.

Probably does take a bit more power to deinterlace, but I'm guessing the D525/ION2 combo can handle it.

I have a HP mini 311, at times I have put HDPVR recordings on it (1080i) they have played, at least to my eye, flawlessly.

Unfortunately they seem to have been discontinued, and are difficult to come by.

How do you know from the specs of anything (netbook, nettop, etc) that it will run well as a sage client? Seems like the HDPVR is always the weak link, and there are a lot of things that will play fine in WMP or VLC, but not in sage. How does one know what hardware to look for that will play the most difficult files smoothly, but also in sage?
