Should I upgrade my STV Serve from XP to Win 7?

This is not a thread of can I upgrade...I know the answer to that. I recently purchased a 3 license Windows 7 Home upgrade due to the fact that a vista computer was acting up. So far *knock on wood* the computer is behaving correctly since installing Windows 7. Once I know that laptop is good to go, I am installing the Windows 7 upgrade on another vista laptop, then I will have one license left.

I am not sure what to do with that license, if anything, but I was debating about putting it on my server. The specs of my server are in my signature. FYI - the server is hardly used beyond being a STV server, so it will only be used when I am puttizing around on the server. My server is running pretty well with very little if any tinkering at this point. So I don't know if I should just let it be or try it out.

Thanks for the input.

You could double-check and make sure all of your components have Win 7 drivers. Use something to make an image of your XP system. Then go for a clean load and a fresh install. Eventually you are going to be wanting to run Win 7. I would disable UAC. (I have on all of mine.) If you don't like it or have issues put your image back in place. (Copy the wiz.bin somewhere safe in both situations.)

I wouldn't do it. What would you get out of using Win7? If you use 64-bit you will get 500mb more ram, but you already have more than you need. I'd save the license and use it when you build a new server in the future.
